The 2019 Labor Code does not require employers to give Tet bonuses to employees.
As for teachers, the 2025 Tet bonus will be different between teachers at non-public training institutions (private schools) and teachers at public schools.
For teachers working under contract at private schools, the Tet bonus is stipulated in Clause 1, Article 104 of the 2019 Labor Code.
Accordingly, the 2025 Tet bonus for teachers at non-public training institutions will be based on the school's results and work completion level.
The bonus regulations will be decided by the employer and publicly announced at the workplace after consulting with the organization representing employees at the facility.
For teachers who are civil servants teaching in public training institutions, schools are not required to give Tet bonuses to contract teachers. For civil servants, Clause 3, Article 12 of the 2010 Law on Civil Servants stipulates as follows:
Officials are entitled to bonuses according to the provisions of law and regulations of public service units.
Some private schools have announced 2025 Tet bonuses for teachers.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Tung - Principal of M.V. Lomonosov Secondary and High School - said that the school's Board of Directors had a meeting and agreed that this year's Tet holiday would remain the same as every year, with the Tet bonus for teachers being 1 month's salary, calculated by the average income in 12 months of the 2024 calendar year.
It is expected that the average Tet bonus for teachers will range from 22 million to over 35 million VND/person.
"This bonus is equivalent to every year and will be sent to teachers before Tet holiday" - Mr. Tung shared.
In the Ho Chi Minh City area, Mr. Bui Gia Hieu, Chairman of the Tre Viet Primary - Secondary - High School Council, said that salaries and benefits for school staff and teachers are regulated from the beginning of the school year.
Based on the school's performance, the Tet bonus ranges from over 5 million to 40 million VND. Those who have worked for 12 months or more will receive the full Tet bonus according to regulations. However, the number of people receiving the Tet bonus of 40 million VND is not much, mainly the leaders of the school system.
Mr. Hieu also informed that the entire Tre Viet Primary - Secondary - High School has about 210 teachers and staff. The Tet bonus fund is around 2 billion VND. Compared to last year, the school's Tet bonus this year has increased, but not much.
