Many new points
One of the new points compared to before is the elimination of early admission. In previous years, the admission rounds before the high school graduation exam, commonly considering academic records, scores for ability assessment, thinking, international certificates (SAT, ACT, IELTS...) combined with other criteria. This year, universities can still use these methods, but must consider the same period as the graduation exam scores, and at the same time convert the scores between methods and combinations to a common scale.
For example, at Hanoi University of Science and Technology last year, the thinking assessment test was calculated on a scale of 100, considering admission for talent on a scale of 110, considering the high school graduation exam score on a scale of 30, this year it must be reduced to the same scale.
However, the determination of the conversion rules must follow the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training. The schools are responsible for explaining the scientific and practical basis for the conversion.
The Ministry of Education and Training also for the first time has stipulated additional incentives and reward points for candidates with special achievements or foreign language certificates, not exceeding the maximum of 10% of the consideration scale, for example, the maximum of 3 points on the 30 scale. At the same time, schools must ensure that no candidate has an admission score (including plus points and priority points for areas and subjects) exceeding the maximum.
For the admission combination, the Ministry of Education and Training does not limit the number, but the requirement must include at least three subjects, suitable for the characteristics and requirements of the training program. In which, Math or Literature is mandatory, with a score weight of no less than 25%.
Universities are allowed to convert foreign language certificates into scores for this subject to include in the admission combination, but the weight does not exceed 50%. In case of considering academic records, schools must use the results of the entire 12th grade with a weight of no less than 25%.
Another notable new point is that candidates who are directly admitted are not confirmed to enter school as early as before. Students still have to register their wishes on the system according to the general plan of the ministry. Schools are not required to commit or confirm early admission to this group.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung - Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training - shared that the changes and adjustments aim to further enhance fairness and transparency in university admissions. In particular, ensuring the opportunity to be admitted and creating more favorable conditions for candidates in the process of registering for university admission.
"In particular, special attention is paid to ensuring the connection between university admissions and the training process at the high school level, especially the 12th grade semester for students. This helps recruitment facilities have enough quantity and enough quality. Admitting candidates suitable for the training program, creating a suitable admission season" - Mr. Dung said.
Many schools have announced enrollment plans
Many universities have announced their 2025 enrollment plans with many new points. The general trend is to reduce admission methods and increase admission combinations.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Viet Ha - Head of Public Relations and Enterprises, University of Mining and Geology - informed that this year, the school has doubled the number of admission combinations compared to last year and opened 6 new majors. This adjustment helps candidates increase their chances of being admitted to the school.
Many schools such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi University of Industry also increased their admission combinations in 2025.
Faced with many new points in university admissions, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thu Huong - Vice Principal of Foreign Trade University advises candidates to follow the admission information of universities, because any educational institution will create favorable conditions for them in the admission process.
"You have prepared and studied for a long time, stay calm, based on each individual's characteristics and desires to choose the right major and career" - Ms. Huong said.
