Students freely ride motorbikes to school
According to the actual records of the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper at the inspection of the parking lot of Hai Ba Trung Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center (Bach Mai Ward, Hanoi), when the Working Group of Road Traffic Police Team No. 4 (Hanoi Traffic Police Department) coordinated with Bach Mai Ward Police to be present, many students of this Center quickly "sper down" their vehicles from the lot to the outside to avoid being fined.
However, using professional measures, the Working Group recorded and then conducted a review and inspection of spontaneous parking lots around the school area. As a result, violating vehicles were discovered, including vehicles without license plates.
During the inspection, the authorities discovered that all violations were protected by the school's ticket office.
Or before that, during a parking inspection of Ha Thanh Secondary and High School (Nghia Do Ward, Hanoi), the Working Group of Road Traffic Police Team No. 6 discovered inside the parking lot many students' over 50cc cylinder motorbikes. Working with the authorities, the students said that they are still allowed to park their vehicles in the school's parking lot and pay for tickets daily and monthly.
Explaining the above situation, the school's leaders admitted that there was no strict control, and pledged to thoroughly inform the bus company's security department, resolutely not accepting to keep vehicles over 50cc from students.
According to statistics from the Traffic Police Department - Ministry of Public Security, an inspection of 30/34 provinces and cities (except for 4 localities affected by floods) in just one day on November 4 discovered 48,059 students who were not qualified to drive vehicles.
Notably, there were 43,988 cases discovered when parking in school parking lots, the rest were parking in parking lots guarded by people around. These are alarming figures on the responsibility of schools in managing and controlling students' vehicles when going to school.
"As soon as we discovered the violation, we had schools sign a commitment not to keep motorbikes or mopeds for underage students. However, to thoroughly handle the situation of students who are not old enough to ride motorbikes, the first responsibility still has to be given to parents" - Lieutenant Colonel Vuong Dinh Huynh - Officer of Road Traffic Police Team No. 4 shared.
When the family is relaxed, children easily disregard the rules
According to Dr. Vu Thu Huong - former lecturer at Hanoi National University of Education, the situation of many middle and high school students, even though they are not old enough, still driving motorbikes to school is a clear manifestation of weakness in legal awareness, originating from family education and mistakes in social awareness.
Dr. Huong believes that the root of the problem lies in the family. In fact, many parents when driving vehicles often violate the law: Not wearing helmets, running red lights, driving in the wrong lane, carrying more people than the prescribed number... Those seemingly small acts have unintentionally become a "wrong lesson" for children.
Regarding the consequences, Dr. Vu Thu Huong warned that allowing underage students to drive motorbikes is a great risk to traffic safety.
"At puberty, they are prone to sudden actions and cannot control their speed. These students often do not understand or do not comply with basic regulations such as driving in the correct lane, stopping at red lights, or distinguishing routes that prohibit motorbikes. Some students even race and speed recklessly on dangerous routes" - Dr. Huong stated the current situation.
HCMC tightens inspection of motorbikes in schools to prevent traffic violations
Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thuy - Principal of Pham Van Sang High School (Xuan Thoi Son Commune, Ho Chi Minh City) said that since the beginning of the school year, the school has notified students and parents, and at the same time requested them to sign a commitment to implement traffic safety regulations. In addition, the school regularly coordinates with the traffic police force to organize traffic law propaganda sessions and instruct students on safe traffic skills.
"In the coming time, the school will continue to increase propaganda, reminders and work with vehicle parking units, requiring students not to keep vehicles if they are over 50cc on the bus to school" - Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thuy informed.
The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Department PC08 said that in the past, the traffic police have deployed many plans to maintain traffic order and safety at school gates and prevent accidents involving students. However, through patrolling, controlling and reflecting from the people, many worrying violations were still recorded.
Statistics show that among the students who were recorded, more than 45% were underage but did not drive motorbikes; over 25% drove at high speeds; more than 12% did not wear helmets; about 11% drove in the wrong lane, on the wrong road and more than 8% did not have a driver's license. In addition, there is also the use of phones while driving, violating alcohol concentration, or climbing the median strip to pick up buses, which is potentially dangerous. Phuc's legs
