Currently, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has completed the statistics, review and evaluation of the expected 10th grade enrollment target from high schools.
According to an official of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the enrollment rate for grade 10 public high school in Ho Chi Minh City this year is expected to increase to 78%, higher than last year at 65%.
According to the annual plan, in mid-April, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will announce the enrollment quotas for each public high school.
The fact that the enrollment rate may be up to 13% higher than last year will help increase students' chances of being admitted to public high schools.
Ms. Tran Thi Hang (Binh Tan District), the parent of a 9th grade student, said that she felt somewhat relieved when her son was preparing to enter the 10th grade entrance exam.
"In fact, my child's education is only average, so my family is quite worried, afraid that my child will not be good at the exam, not passing the public 10th grade, and will have to study at a continuing education center or a private school," said Ms. Hang.
That is also the concern of Ms. Le Xuan in Binh Tan District. Ms. Xuan's children are also preparing to enter the race for a place to study at a public high school in early June.
"My wife and I are workers with average income. Children studying in public schools will reduce the economic burden. In case the child does not pass the entrance exam, we can only send him to a continuing education center or a vocational school, which is a private school, and our family's conditions do not allow it," Ms. Xuan shared.
This year, Ho Chi Minh City has about 90,000 grade 9 students, a decrease of about 26,000 students compared to the previous school year.
The entrance exam for grade 10 is held on June 6-7 with 3 subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language. Students registering for a specialized school or an integrated class must take an additional exam accordingly.
It is expected that students participating in the exam will be able to register a maximum of 8 wishes, including 3 regular 10th grade wishes, 2 specialized 10th grade wishes and 3 integrated 10th grade wishes.
The admission method is expected to be conducted in two forms: entrance exam and selection. In which, the entrance exam is conducted through 2 stages:
Phase 1: students register for 3 priority options 1, 2, 3 to take the entrance exam to grade 10 of public high schools (except for Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City National University of Economics and Technology).
Phase 2: Depending on the actual situation of the application at high schools and the needs of high schools, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will decide on additional enrollment and have documents guiding the implementation to ensure the rights of candidates, on the basis of enrolling enough enrollment quotas for schools that still lack many quotas.
