At the 31st session of the 18th term of the Nghe An Provincial People's Council held from July 9-10, many delegates raised concerns about Nam Dan 2 High School's downgrading the admission standard for grade 10 to 2.5 points/3 subjects. This too low score raises concerns about the impact on the quality of public general education.
Responding to the delegate's question, Mr. Thai Van Thanh - Director of Nghe An Department of Education and Training - said that this was the responsibility of the school principal. In fact, only one candidate has achieved 2.5 points from the second round. This is a remote area, with no private schools or continuing education centers. The school has asked to accept responsibility, said Mr. Thanh.
The Director of Nghe An Department of Education and Training said that such enrollment work is not suitable, "between reason and love, reason must go first". He suggested that it is necessary to orient students with too low scores to study a trade. According to regulations, vocational school students are still granted high school graduation certificates.
"In the near future, when the Law on Vocational Education is amended, vocational colleges will become vocational secondary schools, teaching high school cultural programs, creating favorable conditions for student orientation," Mr. Thanh added.
He affirmed that individual admission results do not reflect the quality of general education. "Nghe An's viewpoint is to educate truly, with real quality, training students with capacity, courage, intelligence, confidentness in entering life and university", the Director of Nghe An Department of Education and Training emphasized.
