The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has just announced a draft Decree regulating salary policies and allowances for teachers to widely collect comments from relevant agencies, organizations and individuals on the Ministry of Education and Training's Electronic Information Portal.
According to the draft Decree, all teachers are entitled to a special salary coefficient. In which, preschool teachers are entitled to a special salary coefficient of 1.25 compared to the current salary coefficient; other titles of teachers are entitled to a special salary coefficient of 1.15 compared to the current salary coefficient.
For teachers teaching at schools, classes for people with disabilities, centers to support the development of integrated education, and boarding schools in border areas, an additional 0.05 is added compared to the prescribed level.
The draft has received the attention of the teaching staff in the context of increasing living costs in large cities.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet - Principal of Hiep Tan Primary School (Phu Thanh Ward) said that this is very necessary and received the consent of the teaching staff. According to Ms. Minh Nguyet, the current income of teachers, especially newly graduated teachers, is still quite low compared to living expenses.
"A new teacher has worked for about 1-2 years, even though the current allowances are calculated, the income is only about more than 5 million VND/month. At this level, it is very difficult to cover living expenses in the city," said Ms. Minh Nguyet.
Therefore, according to Ms. Minh Nguyet, the proposal that all teachers are entitled to a special salary coefficient is appropriate and timely, contributing to motivating teachers to stick with the profession, while encouraging the self-education team to improve their capacity.
"Teachers will be more excited when their income is improved, their lives are more stable, teachers will feel secure in their work and passion for their long-term career," she said.
Ms. Tran Huynh Huong Phuc - a teacher at Hiep Tan Primary School - said that after 2 years of working, her monthly income is only over 5.7 million VND.
Because her family lives in Ho Chi Minh City, she does not have to rent a room, so this income is temporarily acceptable. However, she believes that many young teachers from other provinces to the city are facing greater difficulties.
Meanwhile, Ms. Diep Thi Thuy Duong - a second-grade homeroom teacher at another primary school - said that after 7 years of working, her monthly income is now just over 8 million VND.
According to her, this is temporarily enough because she is living with her parents and does not have to rent a house. However, if he later starts his own family and covers all expenses himself, his current income will be difficult to ensure living needs. "Adjusting additional income will help teachers reduce economic pressure, thereby focusing more on expertise," Ms. Thuy Duong shared.
