Teachers in the 4.0 era
In the context of the entire education sector being busy with the final transition steps from the 2006 General Education Program (GEP) with a knowledge-based approach to the 2018 GEP which focuses on learners’ qualities and competencies, teachers play a key role. Because, to innovate education, especially in the 4.0 era, teachers’ initiative and creativity are needed.
As a young teacher who has only been in the profession for 2 years, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Huyen - a teacher at Nghi Kim Primary School (Nghe An) said that she belongs to the 9X generation. To narrow the gap with her students, the young teacher spends a lot of time learning about their interests and psychology.
According to Ms. Thanh Huyen, proactively applying technology and innovating teaching methods is inevitable for teachers in the digital age. The 2018 General Education Program does not only teach but also requires teachers to focus on developing skills and qualities for students. Students not only read but also have to see, listen, speak, practice, and interact with each other.
Realizing that she did not have much professional experience, Ms. Huyen regularly participated in online courses on teaching methods and creating games to make the lessons more lively. The young teacher shared that preparing lessons in a new way was very fast, scientific, neat, and the colors and layout of the lessons were more eye-catching. Students received the activities in the lesson very enthusiastically and lively, and they were more proactive in exploring and debating instead of passively taking notes like before.
In her professional teaching work, Ms. Huyen always tries to bring her students useful and fun lessons, avoiding boredom. The young female teacher actively innovates teaching methods, turning class time into a way of learning while playing and making the knowledge content interesting and engaging. Thanks to her creativity in teaching and learning, Ms. Huyen not only helps students feel excited, but also stimulates their desire to learn and acquire more knowledge.
Assigned as a homeroom teacher, through each semester, the academic results as well as the moral training of the entire class that Ms. Huyen is in charge of have shown positive progress. Students who were slow to progress in their studies have gradually become more active and have changed. They are no longer shy and passive students but are more active and bold in participating in school movements.
Apply many unique teaching methods
In the 4.0 era, to meet the diverse learning needs of students and keep up with the constant development of society, it is extremely urgent for teachers to proactively innovate teaching methods.
As a young teacher of the 9x generation, Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Linh - teacher at Le Van Tam Primary and Secondary School (Gia Lai) has proactively researched, consulted and applied many unique teaching methods in her lessons. Ms. Linh always emphasizes taking students as the center, teachers are the ones who inspire and open up knowledge for students.
She is a classroom teacher, directly teaching grades 1 and 2 - an age group that is very playful and easily distracted. If Ms. Linh's lectures are not innovative and creative, it will lead to a situation where the students cannot fully absorb knowledge.
“To meet the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program, as well as increase the effectiveness of teaching and learning, I often prepare very carefully the learning materials, illustrations, and lectures each time I go to class,” Ms. Linh shared.
Teaching for Ms. Linh is not just a one-way process, the teacher must understand what the students want, which method will be suitable for each subject. The teacher will be the guide, not just a one-way transmission. This makes the students become more proactive, interested in exploring and learning.
Math lessons that were somewhat dry after Ms. Linh incorporated illustrations and games became more lively, making students very interested and absorb the lessons faster.
Like Ms. Linh, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Nhu - teacher at Nghi An Kindergarten (Nghe An) also applies information technology in preparing lessons.
AI software and video editing have been applied and deployed by Ms. Nhu in the past 2-3 years. This especially makes the lectures more lively, making students interested and curious. Besides, to stimulate creativity, Ms. Nhu integrates interesting stories and games into the teaching process.
“For familiar fairy tales, I used AI software to create animations. This has become a creative playground for students. They can also transform into stories, draw lessons, and actively absorb knowledge,” the female teacher shared.
