Previously, candidates could register unlimited number of aspirations, many students registered dozens of choices to increase their chances of admission. However, according to the new regulations, candidates are only allowed to register no more than 15 aspirations.
At a recent enrollment counseling program in Ho Chi Minh City, many 12th grade students said they felt more pressure when having to choose within a limited range.
Nguyen Minh Anh - a 12th grade student in Ho Chi Minh City - said that she previously planned to register quite a few aspirations for contingency.
I want to register for economics majors at many different schools because admission scores often fluctuate. If there are only 15 aspirations, you must calculate very carefully, if you choose unreasonably, the risk of failing will be higher," Minh Anh said.
Similarly, Tran Gia Huy - a 12th grade student in Ho Chi Minh City - believes that limiting aspirations makes candidates have to study enrollment information more carefully.
Previously, many brothers and sisters registered many aspirations, so they were less worried. But now we have to find out the benchmark scores for each year, targets, and competitiveness levels of each major to arrange them reasonably," Gia Huy shared.
From the perspective of enrollment experts, many opinions believe that the new regulations will help candidates register aspirations with more orientation, avoiding the situation of choosing majors according to trends or registering too many majors without really paying attention.
MSc Phung Khoan - admissions consultant at the University of Science (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) - shared that the 2026 admission regulations allow candidates to register a maximum of 15 aspirations. Therefore, candidates need to have a reasonable aspiration arrangement strategy.
First of all, candidates must identify the major they want to study, for example, electrical - electronics, then learn about schools that train in this major, the learning environment, laboratories, internship opportunities, and jobs after graduation.
He said that candidates should divide their aspirations into three groups. Dream aspirations: majors and schools with high benchmark scores but candidates really want to study. Appropriate aspirations to their abilities: majors and schools with scores relatively close to their abilities. Safe aspirations: choices with high chances of admission to ensure the opportunity to enter university.
Mr. Phung Khoan added that although a maximum of 15 aspirations can be registered, about 10 aspirations is enough, the important thing is to arrange the order reasonably to increase the chances of admission.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, the 2025 university entrance exam has about 852,000 candidates registered for admission with 7.6 million aspirations. Of which, nearly 40% of candidates registered from 5 aspirations or less, nearly 31% registered from over 5 to 10 aspirations, and the rest registered over 10 aspirations.
