On the morning of November 12, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (DET) held a ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the capital's education and training sector, the 42nd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day, and to receive the First Class Labor Medal.
At the ceremony, Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said that from a poor colonial school network, after 70 years of construction and development, the capital's education and training system is now the largest in the country with 2,913 kindergartens and primary schools at all levels, nearly 2.3 million students and nearly 130,000 teachers.
The quality of education in the capital is increasingly improved, the capital's students always achieve high results, ranking first in the country in national and international excellent student competitions.
"The Capital's Education and Training Sector has proactively expanded and improved the effectiveness of international cooperation with countries around the world, attracting and effectively using resources from international cooperation for education, training and scientific research," said Mr. Cuong, adding that the Capital's Education and Training Sector is preparing a dossier to request UNESCO to recognize Hanoi as a Learning City - becoming a member of the global Learning City network.
Attending and speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son acknowledged that the Capital's Education and Training sector has always been one of the pioneering units, leading in all tasks of the entire sector.
"Our country is on the path of development, education and training are constantly innovating and improving quality. In the comprehensive development of human beings, the education of the capital needs to aim higher than the general requirements of the whole country, aiming to educate and create elegant citizens of the capital, with cultural vision, social responsibility and knowing how to live happily for themselves and for the community" - the Minister emphasized and stated his point of view, to do this, the education of the capital must aim to be an elegant education.
According to the Minister, an elegant education is one in which the dignity of teachers is respected, students are guaranteed safety, there is no school violence, no forced extra classes, and the gap between advanced education and mass education is reduced so that students in any area, school, or class can enjoy the best quality of education.
"An elegant education, aiming at international standards, can create civilized, elegant, and integrated people in the capital" - the Minister shared.
In addition to the achievements, the Minister also mentioned urgent issues that need to be overcome such as: Reducing the gap in educational quality between regions and schools; reducing the gap between the results of key education and mass education so that students in any region, school, or class can access the best educational environment and quality; better resolving the relationships between schools and society, schools and localities, teachers and parents, etc. to create an educational environment with orderly rules, where the quality of education is guaranteed, the dignity of the teaching profession is respected, and teachers are exemplary and students are exemplary.
Also at the ceremony, the Hanoi education sector was awarded the First Class Labor Medal. 56 teachers were awarded the titles of People's Teacher and Excellent Teacher by the President.
