The Ministry of Education and Training has issued Circular 06/2025 amending and supplementing the regulations on university and college admissions in Preschool Education, applicable from 2025.
In particular, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that the limit on the number of admission combinations for each major and training program will be removed. Previously, each major was only allowed to use a maximum of 4 admission combinations.
However, to ensure input quality, the regulations require admission combinations to have at least 3 appropriate subjects, in which Math or Literature accounts for at least 25% of the weight.
This regulation helps candidates increase their chances of being admitted, schools are given autonomy in building admission combinations, especially at the time this year when the first generation of students studying and taking the high school graduation exam under the new education program.
MSc. Pham Thai Son - Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that the regulation of expanding admission combinations helps universities attract more candidates and opens up opportunities for those with strengths in different subjects.
Candidates have many combined options, not limited to the fixed subject group. You can choose a combination that suits your personal abilities.
However, Mr. Son also expressed concern that expanding too many complexes without clear criteria can lead to uneven input quality.
"The combinations must accurately reflect the required capacity of the education sector, especially for majors that need solid foundational knowledge such as medicine, pharmacy, architecture, engineering, etc.," said Mr. Son.
Dr. Mai Duc Toan - Director of the Admissions - Communications Center, Gia Dinh University also noted that candidates need to stay calm, do a thorough research to choose the most suitable combination, avoid setting wishes too high compared to their abilities.
"If you set goals that are too far away, you can fall into a situation where you don't go, leading to failed university or choosing the wrong major," Dr. Mai Duc Toan shared.
This year, Gia Dinh University plans to add a number of new admission combinations in a number of majors and majors, such as in the field of Information Technology, the school added 2 more admission combinations: Math - Information - English and Math - Literature - Information.
For majors in the fields of communication, business, administration - management, law, social sciences and international law, banking and finance, the school adds the following combinations: Math - Literature - Physics, Math - Literature - History, Math - Literature - Economic and Legal Education, Math - Information - English.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade said that it will add Math, English, IT and Economic and Legal Education to some admission combinations. At the same time, it is expected to add the group of admission for group C to the admission list.
Van Lang University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry,... also plan to add IT, Technology, Economic and Legal Education to the admission combinations in the 2025 admission round.
