Need to be strictly handled
The above proposal attracted many opinions from teachers and students across the country. Nguyen Tran Hai Yen - a student at Ha Trung High School (Thanh Hoa) believes that this is a reasonable and correct regulation. Teachers are dedicated people, dedicated to teaching, leading students to become people with both virtue and knowledge. Therefore, acts of insulting teachers are unacceptable. "Since I was a child, we have been taught spiritual rituals, post-school education, and respect for teachers. If you enter the school environment without being able to keep the words "ceremony" and "respect", there needs to be a strict and appropriate punishment, otherwise it will cause consequences later," Yen shared.
Sharing the same view, Dinh Thuy Ha - a student at Le Quy Don High School (Hanoi) expressed: "Making strict regulations is necessary to deter and maintain school discipline, but it is necessary to focus on education, not punishment". According to Ha, isolation measures are only effective when accompanied by psychological support for students. Without support, you can easily fall into a feeling of isolation, even resist stronger. The female student believes that, instead of focusing only on discipline, the school can increase dialogue, psychological counseling and emotional education, helping students understand the problem, dare to admit mistakes and correct mistakes.
Clear procedures are needed
Sharing with Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Le Thi Uyen - a teacher at Nguyen Thien Thuat High School (Hung Yen) expressed her agreement with the new proposal. "Recently, we have witnessed many cases of students violating serious ethics, even committing acts of violence against teachers and friends. These incidents have caused public outrage, negatively affected the educational environment and are becoming more complicated. Therefore, strong deterrence measures are needed to protect other teachers and students and maintain school discipline, Ms. Uyen commented.
The female teacher said that the Ministry of Education and Training's proposal shows proactiveness and listening, because the current forms of discipline seem to be not enough to deter students with strong personalities or lacking the right direction from their families.
However, Ms. Uyen also noted that the concept of "offending honor and dignity" is still quite abstract, depending on context, culture and personal feelings. To ensure objectivity and fairness, it is necessary to issue a specific set of instructions on acts considered insulting, along with clear handling levels and procedures, with the participation of psychologists and lawyers.
"In which, it is necessary to classify according to the severity, frequency of violations, consequences and require authentication evidence. In addition, the handling process needs to be designed step by step, from reminders, warnings to considering isolation, avoiding arbitrary or extreme application, Ms. Uyen suggested.
Agreeing with the proposal, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Huyen - a teacher at Nghi Kim Primary School (Nghe An) said that a clear legal framework will contribute to deterring and protecting a safe and healthy educational environment, while helping the school have a basis to thoroughly handle violations.
"Strict handling is necessary, but the ultimate goal is still to help students change their awareness, build a positive school environment, where both teachers and students are respected and protected. In addition to sanctions, we also need to focus on psychological counseling, moral education and life skills for students to achieve long-term results, Ms. Huyen expressed.
