Aspiration from a new perspective
In an open and friendly atmosphere at the meeting with press agencies to celebrate the 101st anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21), Dr. Truong Tan Dat - the new Rector of Dong Thap University (DThU) - for the first time shared the school's development orientation after being appointed by the Ministry of Education and Training.

The consistent message he emphasized is to build DTHU into a high-quality training and scientific research center of Vietnam and Southeast Asia. "That is not only a strategic goal but also a common aspiration of the school collective on the journey of building knowledge, serving the community and contributing to the sustainable development of the country," Dr. Truong Tan Dat shared.

According to the new Rector, that aspiration does not originate from theoretical goals but is nurtured by more than 50 years of training tradition, more than 20 years of integration and accumulated achievements over many years. That is also the foundation for the School to confidently implement a long-term development strategy in the context of strongly transforming higher education.
Foundation for the journey to reach further
In the 2025–2026 academic year alone, DTHU has recorded many outstanding results, creating more momentum for the breakthrough journey. In the field of training, 10 new majors and specializations have been opened, focusing on fields with high human resource demand such as applied artificial intelligence, semiconductor microchips, digital biotechnology, agricultural technology and transportation construction engineering.

Three new master's training majors have also been opened, bringing the total number to 21 majors and postgraduate majors. The quality of training continues to be affirmed with the rate of students graduating on schedule reaching 82%, while over 93.62% of students have jobs after 12 months of graduation. Career guidance activities reach more than 30,700 students; STEM Education Day - Creativity for the Community attracts nearly 4,000 students, teachers and management staff to participate, contributing to spreading the spirit of innovation to the community.
These results show that the development orientation of DTHU is increasingly linked to practical needs, while creating an important foundation for improving competitiveness and integration.
Three pillars of realizing aspirations
To realize the goal of reaching Southeast Asia in the next 5 years, Dr. Truong Tan Dat said that DTHU will focus on developing on 3 strategic pillars. The first is to promote university autonomy associated with accountability and constructive spirit. The second is comprehensive digital transformation and building a quality culture. The third is to develop high-quality human resources and optimize resources.

Closing the meeting, Dr. Truong Tan Dat thanked the press agencies for accompanying the School throughout its development process, and expressed his desire to continue to receive sharing, criticism and spread from the press so that the values of higher education are closer to learners and the community.
