On December 7, Mr. Le Duc Tien - Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee confirmed that the contractor is making efforts to build Quang Tri Airport (Quang Tri Airport), but is currently facing some difficulties, especially in site clearance.
Currently, the team of officers and workers participating in the project construction is about 115 people with many types of supporting machines. Up to this point, the work of clearing mines and explosives for an area of 140.56 hectares has been completed. The units are implementing the construction of service roads, an aircraft parking area of 32,917 m2 and a number of other auxiliary items.
“Based on the actual volume and the progress comparison, the construction progress of the parking lot basically meets the requirements. For the service road project, the progress is slower than required,” said Mr. Le Duc Tien.
Land clearance for the construction of Quang Tri airport alone has a total investment of more than 233.1 billion VND, with a total area of 265.3 hectares (Gio Linh district), of which the core area is 135.5 hectares.
Up to now, 209.44 hectares of land have been cleared. The disbursed capital is more than 103.7 billion VND and 140.5 hectares of land have been allocated to investors. The remaining area of land clearance to be carried out is 55.93 hectares, of which the core area is 26.26 hectares and this area is mainly concentrated in Gio Mai commune.
Mr. Vo Dac Hoa - Chairman of Gio Linh District People's Committee said that the site clearance has not been completed because some households have not agreed on the compensation price; there is no resettlement area yet, so people request to commit to resettlement arrangement before moving; some land areas need to clearly identify the origin of the land...
In addition to difficulties due to slow site clearance, the investor said that the project construction process requires an estimated volume of about 1.1 million cubic meters of fill, but the Phong Binh 1 mine in the area has not yet completed the procedures for exploitation.
To ensure the project progress, Mr. Le Duc Tien said that Gio Linh district has been requested to complete the clearance of the remaining area. Priority will be given to clearing the core area and areas within the runway to promptly hand over the land to the investor for construction.
Regarding the issue of land filling, Quang Tri province assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and related units to review existing land mines, shortening the time for licensing procedures for land mines in Gio Linh district.
It is known that Quang Tri airport is implemented by T&T - CIENCO 4, with a total investment of more than 5,800 billion VND. The airport meets level 4C standards and level II military airport, operates code E aircraft, meeting the needs of operating up to 5 million passengers/year and 25,500 tons of cargo/year. This project started in July 2024, invested under the public-private partnership (PPP) method, and it is expected that Quang Tri airport will be put into operation and use in July 2026.
