At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the overall implementation of the work at the Long Thanh airport construction site still had some disjointed and uncoordinated points. The Prime Minister requested to rebuild the progress critical path, follow a rolling form, and organize the work closely, synchronously, and rhythmically.
The Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Transport, the Investor and relevant ministries and branches to clearly review the responsibilities of individuals and organizations causing obstacles leading to difficulties and delays, and strictly handle them according to Party regulations and State laws. In the immediate future, transfer and dismiss officials who cause obstacles and delays in project implementation. In particular, explain the delay in the construction of the Animal/Plant Quarantine Agency Headquarters and ground service facilities; clearly identify responsibilities and report to the Prime Minister in December 2024.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also assigned Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha to directly direct and work monthly to inspect and urge the implementation of the project. The Ministry of Transport and coordinating agencies focus on implementing component project 4 to ensure synchronous completion with component project 3 and other component projects.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested that all projects must be completed before December 31, 2025, to put Long Thanh airport into operation before February 28, 2026.
Speed up traffic projects connecting Long Thanh airport
At the meeting, the Ministry of Transport said that according to the plan, the traffic system connecting to and from Long Thanh airport will be implemented by two methods: road and rail, including 5 road routes and 3 rail routes, such as Bien Hoa-Vung Tau expressway, Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, Ben Luc-Long Thanh expressway (these 3 projects are being implemented, expected to be completed in 2025-2026), Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh expressway (currently operating 4 expressway lanes, expected to expand to 8-10 lanes), Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 4 (has submitted investment policy)...
The Prime Minister also requested the Ministry of Transport to review and study the high-speed railway plan directly connecting two airports, Long Thanh airport and Tan Son Nhat airport, to ensure the fastest and most effective way, and to complete the route and investment capacity in the first quarter of 2025...
In phase 1, Long Thanh airport is expected to receive 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year, of which 70-80% are international flights.
Regarding the implementation of the second runway, the Ministry of Transport, based on the resolution of the National Assembly, will carry out necessary procedures, urgently develop and implement a plan to implement the second runway, ensuring its completion in sync with component project 3 and other component projects.
