Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam Uong Viet Dung assessed that promoting digital transformation in the procedures stage is a long-term solution to reduce the load on large airports, especially during peak holidays and Tet.
On the occasion of this year's peak holiday, Ho Chi Minh City has many major events, so Tan Son Nhat International Airport welcomes many visitors to and from.
"However, the implementation of facial recognition technology via the VNeID application is applied synchronously at Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai airports, helping passengers complete quick procedures without having to submit personal documents. In addition, Tan Son Nhat airport has put terminal T3 into operation. Therefore, although the number of passengers passing through the airport during the holidays this year is large, there is no longer any congestion," Mr. Uong Viet Dung shared.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam quickly informed about the exploitation situation at airports during the holidays. Accordingly, on April 30, 2025, the total passenger transport market output reached 244.96 thousand passengers (up 24.53%). International passenger transport reached 137.42 thousand passengers (up 26.47%); domestic passenger transport reached 107.54 thousand passengers (up 22.14%) over the same period last year.
Total output through airports and airfields reached 2.16 thousand take-offs and landings (up 19.05%); 352.5 thousand passengers (up 23.89%) over the same period last year.
Total output through Tan Son Nhat airport reached 725 take-offs and landings (up 16.94%); 119.06 thousand passengers (up 22.52%) compared to the same period last year.

Of which, international passenger transport reached 56.83 thousand passengers (up 40.77%); domestic passenger transport reached 107.54 thousand passengers (up 22.14%) over the same period last year.
The total passenger transport output of airlines reached 173.55 thousand passengers (up 16.76%). Of which, international passenger transport reached 59.99 thousand passengers (up 31.5%); domestic passenger transport reached 113.56 thousand passengers (up 10.23%) over the same period last year.
The Tan Son Nhat Airport Flight Operation Center said that on April 30 alone, the airport welcomed more than 115,000 visitors, most of whom were people returning to their hometowns, traveling or attending the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification. The skyrocketing number of visitors has caused parking lots, waiting rooms, check-in counters, and security screening areas to be crowded.
At the peak of this year's holiday, facial recognition technology via the VNeID application is applied synchronously, helping passengers complete quick procedures without having to submit personal documents.
Currently, when passing through Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports, passengers only need to open the application, log in to a level 2 identification account, go to the "Alieration services" section and check-in online. At security gates or boarding gates, passengers only need to look at the camera so that the system can automatically identify and open the gate.
