On the afternoon of September 23, Mr. Vu Duc Nhuan - Chairman of Son Dien Commune People's Committee (Lam Dong) confirmed that prolonged heavy rain caused landslides in the section from Km50 to Km51 through Gia Bac Pass, National Highway 28.
At the scene, the positive slope was eroded, hundreds of cubic meters of soil and rock spilled down to cover the road surface. Meanwhile, the negative slope also continued to erode, with the risk of eating deep into the roadbed.
The location of the incident is on a road section under construction to overcome the consequences of landslides occurring in the 2025 rainy season.
After the landslide occurred, Son Dien Commune People's Committee sent forces to inspect and develop a response plan.
The commune also mobilized excavators to the scene to rake and clear soil and rocks on Gia Bac Pass. However, due to the large volume of soil and rocks and continuing rain, the recovery cannot be implemented.
According to Mr. Vu Duc Nhuan, the Commune People's Committee has assigned the Police force and the Commune Military Command to erect warning signs, set up checkpoints at both ends of the landslide area and guide people to travel in other directions.
Currently, the commune police have reported the incident to the Lam Dong Provincial Police to direct local police to coordinate traffic regulation on National Highway 28, ensuring safety for people and vehicles" - Mr. Nhuan said.
National Highway 28 connects National Highway 20 in Di Linh commune, passing through Gia Bac pass area in Son Dien commune, then connecting with Bac Binh commune and Phan Thiet ward, Lam Dong, to National Highway 1A.
This is a road with a fairly large traffic volume.
Currently, National Highway 28 is seriously landslide, and traffic through this area is potentially dangerous. People are advised to choose alternative routes through National Highway 28B and National Highway 55 to ensure safety.
