On the afternoon of October 24, at the Vietnam Agricultural Week 2025 event (part of the series of activities to summarize 5 years of the Campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods" for the period 2021-2025", an auction of 50kg Siberi sturgeon was held, raised for 15 years.
This "record" fish belongs to Duong Yen Cooperative (Lai Chau), a unit with more than 12 years of experience in raising cold-water fish, each year supplying over 20 tons of high-quality sturgeon to the market.
The cooperative representative said that Siberi sturgeon only grows well in cold water environments, where the temperature is maintained at a stable level of 18-22°C, ideal conditions for firm, sweet and characteristic fish meat.
Normally, a sturgeon needs to be cared for for nearly two years to reach an average weight of 2-3kg. Therefore, to have a "giant" sturgeon weighing up to 50kg, Duong Yen Cooperative has meticulously nurtured it for 15 years, considering it a "treasure" of Lai Chau cold water.
offered at a starting price of 20 million VND, the "record- tally fish" quickly attracted the attention of many guests. Singer Duc Phuc took on the role of the auction host and was the one who "opened the store" for 25 million VND.
After many bids, Mr. Nguyen Hong Long - General Director of proton LLC successfully auctioned the price at 102 million VND.
Mr. Long shared: I am very happy to be the successful auctioner, to become the owner of this special sturgeon. This is not only a valuable product, but also a testament to the dedication and efforts of Vietnamese farmers.
According to Ms. Tran Thi Thu Ha - Deputy Director of Duong Yen Cooperative, the entire auction amount will be used to maintain and propagate the breed of Beluga sturgeon - a rare fish variety with high nutritional value, the price of each sturgeon is millions of VND. At the same time, the Cooperative also allocated a part to support students in difficult circumstances in Phong Tho district, Lai Chau.
According to the leader of the Domestic Market Management and Development Department, choosing sturgeon as the focus product of Vietnam Agricultural Products Week 2025 is not only because it is an essential, nutritious food, but also because the image of sturgeon has long been considered a symbol of prosperity, endurance and prosperity.
