New development momentum
The knowledge economy plays a key role in shaping the future of the economy. Vietnam needs to focus on developing intellectual industries such as information technology, education and healthcare. This means investing heavily in education and training, especially digital skills, to prepare for a labor force capable of creativity and innovation.
The knowledge economy requires a change in thinking, in which knowledge and technology are decisive factors for growth. The government also needs to build mechanisms and policies to support startups and technology businesses, and encourage creativity and innovation in industries.
Meanwhile, the digital economy has been and is an irreversible trend globally. Digital transformation not only helps businesses optimize production processes but also creates many new business opportunities, promoting the strong development of service and e-commerce industries. In particular, Vietnam needs to strongly develop information technology infrastructure, 5G networks and digital platforms for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Digital transformation means improving national competitiveness, reducing operating costs and expanding the global market. Therefore, policies to support technology companies, startups, and small and medium-sized enterprises in applying new technologies will create breakthroughs in the country's growth model.
Green economic development is not only aimed at growth but also associated with protecting the environment and natural resources. Production and consumption activities need to comply with sustainable development standards, minimize negative impacts on nature and aim for circular economic models.
In particular, the sustainable growth model cannot be without the participation of economic sectors, especially the State economy and the private economy. Resolution 79 was born right before the 14th National Congress affirming that the State economy plays an important role in macroeconomic stability, adjusting major balances of the economy and strategic development orientation.
Meanwhile, Resolution 68 also highlights that the private economy plays a key role in promoting economic growth. Policies need to create a favorable business environment, ensure property rights, freedom of business, and encourage domestic enterprises to expand their scale and improve their international competitiveness. The application of knowledge and technology in production and business will help private enterprises rise up in global competition.
Green transformation and energy transformation must be implemented drastically and with a clear roadmap. The construction of international financial centers, high-quality service centers and large logistics centers associated with seaports and airports will create a strong connection between Vietnam and the world. Solutions on energy security and environmental security will play a decisive role in building a green and sustainable economy.
Breakthrough and great opportunity for the economy
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thuong Lang, the Draft Document of the 14th Party Congress has identified a system of socio-economic development goals for the period 2026-2030 with a long-term vision. The set targets are not only quantitative but also reflect the direction of deeply transforming the growth model, improving the quality, efficiency and competitiveness of the economy.
Compared to the period 2021-2025, when average growth was about 6%/year, the target of 10%/year shows the requirement to create a leap in production capacity, labor productivity and resource efficiency. If achieved, this goal will help Vietnam significantly shorten the development gap with leading countries, creating a solid foundation to realize the goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045" - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thuong Lang emphasized.
Associated with the high growth target is the GDP per capita target to reach about 8,500 USD by 2030. "Compared to 5,026 USD in 2025, this target requires economic growth to go hand in hand with increasing labor productivity and distributing relatively reasonable growth achievements" - this expert analyzed.
Sharing the same view when exchanging with Lao Dong, Dr. Nguyen Minh Phong - an economic expert - emphasized that the digital economy, digital transformation and innovation are becoming new growth drivers with great potential, allowing to improve labor productivity and governance efficiency in most industries and fields.
Dr. Nguyen Minh Phong believes that to achieve high growth targets, it is necessary to effectively implement the key resolutions issued by the Politburo in the past time. Especially the resolutions on private economic development, science and technology and the State economy. If these three areas are implemented synchronously and drastically, it will certainly create new growth momentum.
It is necessary to establish a new growth model towards improving productivity, quality, efficiency, added value and competitiveness of the economy. Taking science, technology, innovation and digital transformation as the main driving forces, promoting the formation of production capacity and new high-quality production methods, focusing on developing the digital economy and data economy. On that basis, innovate and upgrade traditional growth drivers. Focus on forming strong growth poles, key economic regions, urban systems and new generation special economic zones, capable of competition and connectivity at the regional and global level" - Dr. Nguyen Minh Phong analyzed.
In addition, Dr. Nguyen Minh Phong emphasized that cadre work is of key significance. “In the context of the economy entering a new stage of development, the requirements for the contingent of cadres are not only professional capacity, but also political bravery, innovative thinking, and the ability to adapt quickly to domestic and international changes. Leadership and management cadres need to have a long-term vision, dare to think, dare to do, and dare to take responsibility for the common good. It is necessary to select a contingent of cadres with sufficient capacity, prestige, vision and stability to operate the apparatus effectively, avoid disruption, thereby ensuring continuity and efficiency in policy implementation”.
