Livestream opens the way for early flowering flowers to be consumed
This year's Tet flower season, Cho Lach flower village faces a major challenge when the weather is unfavorable, causing hundreds of thousands of chrysanthemum pots to bloom earlier than expected.
Local statistics show that more than 30% of the total of about 1.2 million chrysanthemum pots in the whole commune are affected. Early blooming flowers have caused many traditional traders to refuse to buy because they are worried about not keeping their shape and color until Tet. Faced with the risk of great damage, many gardeners are in a state of anxiety when their efforts for many months are facing the risk of not recovering capital.
Faced with this situation, Vinh Long Department of Industry and Trade has proactively coordinated with Viettel Post, TikTok Vietnam and local authorities to organize livestream sessions selling flowers directly at the garden. This sales form helps directly connect flower growers with consumers across the country, shortening the intermediate stage. After just over two hours of broadcasting, more than 900 orders were successfully closed, equivalent to about 1,800 flower pots being consumed. This result not only helps solve the amount of flowers blooming early but also opens up a new consumption channel for farmers.
As one of the households supported with flower consumption, Ms. Pham Thi Hue Tu said that her family planted nearly 1,000 chrysanthemum pots, many of which bloomed earlier than expected.
Previously, I only knew how to use technology to water automatically, never thought I could sell flowers through social networks to customers everywhere like this, this is a new direction that needs to be replicated" - Ms. Tu shared.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Nguyen Tung Nam - owner of a garden with more than 6,000 chrysanthemum pots - said that his family has consumed more than 300 pots through livestream sessions. According to Mr. Nam, the new approach helps farmers be more proactive in consumption, reducing dependence on traders.
Accompanying responsibility and agricultural digitalization strategy
From the above reality, local authorities recognize that digital transformation in agriculture must originate from the actual needs of the people.
Ms. Le Thi Hoang Oanh - Secretary of the Party Committee of Cho Lach commune said that the whole commune currently has more than 2.5 million ornamental flower products, of which weather risks are a regular issue. According to Ms. Oanh, the application of digital technology in flower consumption is not only a temporary issue but also a long-term responsibility of the local government. "The locality will continue to accompany and support people in terms of infrastructure and digital skills" - Ms. Oanh emphasized.
From the perspective of industry management, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Director of Vinh Long Department of Industry and Trade - assessed e-commerce as an inevitable trend for specialty agricultural products. Mr. Tuan said that the Industry and Trade sector is promoting the introduction of local products on digital platforms, with consumption output estimated at over 50% for some items. "Livestream sessions not only solve immediate output but also contribute to promoting the Cho Lach flower and ornamental plant brand" - Mr. Tuan assessed.
According to Mr. Tuan, in the coming time, the Department of Industry and Trade will continue to coordinate in organizing training and guiding farmers to apply digital technology methodically, from online sales to logistics and brand building. The goal is not only to stop at "rescuing" when encountering difficulties, but to aim to form an agricultural ecosystem that adapts to climate change. From the story of early blooming chrysanthemums, it shows that when farmers switch from production thinking to market thinking, local agriculture will have more room for sustainable development.
