Recently, there have been some customer complaints about the sudden increase in electricity bills in August 2025 in some localities in the North and Central regions.
In the Report on the issue of electricity bills in August 2025 and on the proposal to amend Decree 72/2025/ND-CP regulating the mechanism and time for adjusting average electricity prices, EVN said that Power Corporation (TCTDL) has compiled specific statistics and showed that nationwide there are a total of more than 3.2 million customers out of a total of 31.88 million domestic customers with an increase of 30% or more in electricity consumption in August (equivalent to more than 10% of the total number of customers).
The situation of handling information reflecting on electricity bills in August increased: According to data from the Customer Care Centers of credit institutions as well as monitoring reflection on social networks, up to now, there are about 500 customer reflections on electricity bills in August increased. The feedback information has been urgently reviewed and clarified to respond and inform customers.
EVN said that basically, in August, especially in the first half of the month, many areas in the North experienced a period of severe heat and sunshine, leading to a very high increase in electricity consumption. Even on August 4, 2025, electricity consumption in the North was at a record high.
"In the content posted on social networks reflecting on electricity bills, there are also many posts or groups that cannot verify specific customer information, so it is impossible to specifically find out the authenticity of the information. Some of the reported information is not real or posted for the purpose of attracting views and selling online" - EVN said.
In addition, according to this unit, there are many cases where customers report that they are not customers buying electricity directly from EVN but buying electricity from retail electricity buyers. These organizations still use mechanical meters, have to enter manual data and therefore still have a higher risk of errors than electronic meters in the issue of typing the wrong metric index. According to preliminary statistics, there are currently 521 retail electricity purchase and trading organizations nationwide, of which 481 are in the Northern region alone.
For EVN electricity customers, electronic meters have been installed for most customers. Installing electronic meters and remotely reading data helps recording meters without having to enter manual data (such as when using mechanical meters), thereby significantly limiting errors because the data is automatically updated, and the data does not have human subjective intervention factors.
"After initial reviewing the information related to the reflection on the high electricity bill in August, no errors were detected and currently the review and specific inspection of the reflection on the electricity bill is still being carried out" - EVN emphasized.
