Joining forces to solve the land problem
Information from EVNSPC said that at the end of August 2026, the Southern Power Project Management Board, An Giang Power Company in coordination with the Southern Power System Dispatch Center and related units successfully energized the 110kV Phu Quoc - North Phu Quoc Power Line.
This is the 3rd consecutive project, along with the 220kV Phu Quoc Substation and the 110kV Phu Quoc - Nam Phu Quoc Power Line, which were also just completed and energized in August 2026.
With 3 projects (total investment of nearly 2,165 billion VND invested by EVNSPC, assigned to the Southern Power Project Management Board to implement) put into operation, it has increased the total power supply capacity throughout the Phu Quoc Special Zone to 315 MVA and expanded to 500MVA, creating ring-linked circuits, ensuring N-1 standards, and marking an important step in completing the transmission grid system in Phu Quoc. Thereby, creating a driving force for socio-economic breakthrough for the Phu Quoc special zone, and being ready to ensure safe, stable and reliable power supply, serving the APEC 2027 event.
Mr. Hoang Huu Thoi - Director of the Southern Power Project Management Board - said that the biggest difficulty of the project is site clearance. The power lines on the island stretch with many pole positions, passing through areas affecting many organizations and households; large volume of survey and field survey work; some land plots bought and resold, changing owners or owners not present in the locality for a long time also cause many difficulties.
However, with the enthusiastic support of the An Giang provincial government, Phu Quoc Special Zone, especially many people are willing to give up land for the common development of Pearl Island, and at the same time, EVNSPC has assigned 2 deputy general directors to directly manage throughout the construction site to review progress weekly and monthly, thoroughly handle difficulties, obstacles and arising issues according to the principle of clear people, clear tasks, in accordance with authority, and site clearance work is also resolved to implement projects.
Ready to ensure electricity for APEC 2027
Besides site clearance problems, projects also face many difficulties such as transportation of materials and equipment from the mainland to the island, labor shortage when many large projects serving APEC 2027 are simultaneously deployed in Phu Quoc; the impact of heavy rain weather from April to now...
Mr. Dao Hoa Binh - Deputy General Director of EVNSPC said - before the requirement to ensure safe, continuous and stable grid operation, meeting the growth of Phu Quoc and ensuring absolute electricity for the APEC 2027 Conference, EVNSPC has drastically accelerated the progress of the above 3 projects.
EVNSPC has directed the Southern Power Project Management Board, An Giang Power Company and contractors to focus maximum resources and accelerate construction progress. Leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity Group, and EVNSPC are also regularly present to directly direct, urge progress and remove obstacles in the project implementation process.
At the construction site, the construction atmosphere is always bustling and urgent day and night. The consulting, supervision, and construction forces of units participating in the project work almost without days off, holidays, or Tet. Officials, engineers, and workers take advantage of every hour when the weather is favorable, striving to complete each item of work.
Especially in the wire pulling stage, contractors proactively bring unmanned aerial vehicles (Drone) to spread prey wires. This method thoroughly solves difficulties when having to move through dense forest terrain or household land, significantly shortening construction time.
Although the general requirement is to complete the entire workload before September 2027, EVNSPC and related units are striving to basically complete the items 1 year earlier than planned. Thereby creating more time to inspect, monitor and comprehensively adjust the system, ensuring the power grid operates safely and reliably.
