Gasoline and oil prices decrease, railway prices and freight rates reduced from March 13

After domestic gasoline and oil prices sharply decreased, the railway industry adjusted to reduce passenger fares by 3% and freight rates by 4%, applying from 0:00 on March 13.

On March 12, Railway Transport Joint Stock Company said that currently domestic gasoline and oil prices have decreased by about 12.43% compared to 3:00 PM on March 7, 2026.

Therefore, the railway industry decided to reduce passenger fares and freight rates throughout the system.

Passenger ticket prices on all trains are reduced by 3%, while freight rates are reduced by 4%. This policy starts from 0:00 on March 13, 2026.

Previously, from March 8, 2026, the railway industry increased passenger fares by 10% and freight rates by 15% compared to before due to the sudden increase in domestic fuel prices.

According to the Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, the adjustment aims to promptly reflect fluctuations in fuel costs, while contributing to reducing the burden of travel and transportation costs for passengers and businesses.

In addition to adjusting ticket prices according to fuel fluctuations, the railway industry still maintains preferential policies for many groups of passengers.

90% discount on ticket prices for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and revolutionary activists before 1945.

30% discount on ticket prices for people with meritorious services to the revolution, heroes of the armed forces, wounded soldiers, people enjoying policies like wounded soldiers and people with severe disabilities according to the provisions of law (applied to foreign passengers as well).

In addition, elderly people who are Vietnamese citizens aged 60 and over are entitled to a 15% discount on ticket prices; children from 6 to under 10 years old are entitled to a 25% discount. Children under 6 years old are exempt from train tickets, provided that each adult ticket comes with one child.

For students of universities and colleges, round-trip tickets for the return trip are reduced by 10% of the ticket price.
