On the afternoon of November 25, 2025, the Customs Department said it had just sent a representative to attend the Regional Conference on Intellectual Property Rights held in Kota Kinabalu, state of Sabah, Malaysia.

The Regional Conference on Intellectual Property Rights was organized by the Ministry of Home Trade and Housing Costs of Malaysia in coordination with the counterfeit Anti- acquirer React. The Vietnamese delegation attending the conference included representatives of the Customs Department, the Market Management Department and the Intellectual Property Department.

The conference was attended by representatives of customs authorities, law enforcement agencies, right owners, legal experts and e-commerce platforms from many countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

For Vietnam Customs, this is an important opportunity to enhance dialogue, share experiences and promote international cooperation in the prevention and control of counterfeit goods, protect intellectual property rights, protect consumers and ensure healthy trade order.

Strengthening cooperation from online to in-person

With the theme Implementing Intellectual Property Rights in Asia: Strengthening cooperation from Online to Direct, the conference focused on discussing the increasing challenges in controlling counterfeit goods, especially goods circulating through e-commerce and cross-border trade activities.

The discussion revolves around sensitive areas such as pharmaceuticals, health care products and medical equipment - items with many potential risks of violating intellectual property rights, directly affecting the health and rights of consumers.

At the in-depth discussion session, Ms. Hoang Vinh Ha - representative of Vietnam Customs, an expert recognized by the World Customs Organization (WCO) in the field of intellectual property - attended the conference as a speaker.

Sharing experiences in controlling counterfeit goods via e-commerce

In the discussion, Ms. Hoang Vinh Ha introduced WCO tools and recommendations on strengthening the enforcement of intellectual property rights at the border. In particular, it emphasized the application of risk analysis tools and information databases that the WCO encourages member countries to deploy.

She also shared the experience of Vietnam Customs in controlling goods violating intellectual property rights through e-commerce platforms - an emerging field with many challenges in management, information verification and requirements for inter-sectoral coordination.

According to the Customs Department, the conference also has many outstanding activities such as sharing best practices in controlling intellectual property violations of customs forces of countries; dialogue with e-commerce platforms on online counterfeit handling mechanisms; organizing in-depth training on counterfeit identification through interactive booths of right owners.

In particular, the conference also held a ceremony to express gratitude to law enforcement agencies and online platforms that have actively contributed to the work of preventing and combating counterfeit goods.

Through the exchange contents, the conference emphasized the importance of strengthening extensive cooperation between enforcement agencies, the private sector and e-commerce platforms in the region to effectively deal with increasingly sophisticated and complicated intellectual property rights violations.
