However, behind these positive figures, there are still many bottlenecks in costs, infrastructure and institutions that need to be removed soon for the logistics industry to develop sustainably.
The scale of the logistics service market reaches about 45 - 50 billion USD
According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the past time, Vietnam's logistics service industry has had quite strong development steps (average increase of 14 - 16%/year, more than 2 times the world average increase; the scale of Vietnam's logistics service market is about 45 - 50 billion USD, equivalent to 10% of GDP and 5% of import and export turnover). In 2025, Vietnam was assessed and ranked by international organizations in the top 10 emerging logistics markets; top 4 in the region in the Logistics Opportunity Index and top 5 ASEAN, top 40 in the world in the Logistics Performance Index.
According to Mr. Tran Tien Dung - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Logistics Service Enterprises Association - in the context of the world economy continuing to become complicated, prolonged geopolitical conflicts, and changing freight and international insurance costs, Vietnam's logistics industry still maintains its recovery momentum and positive growth, making an important contribution to stabilizing the supply chain and promoting exports. The scale and capacity of the logistics market continue to be strengthened. Logistics service revenue maintains a fairly good growth rate; seaport, ICD, warehouse, and logistics center systems are invested and expanded; multimodal freight capacity is gradually improved.
Many domestic logistics enterprises have actively restructured, invested in technology, improved service quality, and gradually participated more deeply in the regional and global supply chain. Digital transformation and green logistics have made clear changes. Logistics enterprises are promoting the application of digital platforms in operational management, order tracking, warehousing management, and electronic documents; implementing energy saving solutions, optimizing load routes, and reducing emissions.
Promoting infrastructure and logistics center development
Although there are positive bright spots, logistics costs in Vietnam have decreased but are still higher than in countries in the region, while regional linkages and infrastructure connections are not really synchronized, easily broken when natural disasters occur. Logistics enterprises are mostly small-scale, lacking forces strong enough to lead the market and Vietnam has not yet formed a national logistics center.
Pointing out the difficulties for the logistics industry in Vietnam, Mr. Dao Trong Khoa - Chairman of the Vietnam Logistics Service Business Association (VLA) - said that high-quality human resources for the logistics industry are still lacking, digital skills and professional style do not meet global requirements.
Regulations have not kept up with reality; digital transformation and new green transformation are in the early stages; industry data has not been fully digitized; platforms such as the national single window mechanism, electronic origin certification and digital customs have not been connected smoothly" - Mr. Khoa emphasized.
In the context of the global supply chain still having many fluctuations, Mr. Tran Tien Dung - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Logistics Service Business Association - said that it is necessary to review and amend overlapping regulations related to logistics, warehousing, customs, and infrastructure investment; build a policy framework to encourage green logistics and digital logistics.
It is necessary to promote the development of infrastructure and logistics centers, prioritizing investment in inter-regional connectivity infrastructure, multimodal transportation. Accelerate the progress of key projects on seaports, railways, and waterways; allocate land funds and investment attraction mechanisms for regional logistics centers, associated with industrial parks, economic zones, border gates and large seaports. Improve business capacity and human resources, promote linkages between logistics enterprises and manufacturing and export enterprises; strengthen training logistics human resources in the direction of practice and standardization of skills" - Mr. Dung emphasized.
