Accordingly, in Decision No. 2634/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on approving the list of important national projects, key energy sector in the Northwestern mountainous provinces is named in the series of projects.
In provinces such as Lai Chau, Son La, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang... many hydropower projects and transmission grid works have been invested in expanding and increasing capacity.
When put into operation, these projects will supplement an important source of electricity for the national power system, while creating jobs, increasing budget revenue, and improving local infrastructure.
With a designed capacity of hundreds of MW, these plants will contribute to reducing electricity demand in the highland provinces. Along with that, the projects help ensure energy security, promote local economic development.

Therefore, the requirement is that energy development must go hand in hand with sustainability, harmonizing the interests of the State, businesses and people.
The series of key energy projects is expected to help the Northwest mountainous region gradually break through, shortening the development gap with other regions across the country.
