Union Shelter for Difficult Workers

Kiều Vũ |

On the occasion of the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union, many union members and workers in difficult circumstances received support to repair and build Trade Union Shelters.

In those houses, there is not only the joy of the members but also the deep trust and gratitude for the Vietnam Trade Union organization.

The union has given us the roof of our long- dreamed house

On the morning of July 23, despite the impact of storm No. 3, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc, a worker at Xuan Mai Urban Environment Company Limited, was still assured of living in the newly inaugurated house. This house was built with the financial support of the Trade Union Shelter of the Hanoi City Labor Federation.

Previously, every time there was strong rain and strong winds, Ms. Ngoc and her 2 children (one in grade 5, one in grade 6) were worried about covering the road enough to prevent leakage. There were times when the rain was so heavy, the house leaked, the bricks broke and fell to the ground, and family members went to the stadium to stand safer indoors...

Nowadays, that worry is gone because on a plot of land of about 80 square meters, a spacious 2-storey house with an attic was built in March 2025, and by June 2025, it will be completed and put into use, replacing the previous seriously degraded house.

The total construction cost was 296 million VND, of which the Hanoi City Labor Federation supported 40 million VND, the family's savings were 156 million VND, and borrowed 100 million VND.

For Ms. Ngoc's family, the dream has come true. The whole family does not have to worry about running out to the field when it rains heavily. The children have a decent place to sleep and sit. Ms. Ngoc and her husband feel secure every time they go to work. In particular, every time I come home from work, the fatigue in me disappears when I step into my cool house...

Ms. Ngoc shared emotionally about the happiness of the whole family when living in the new house. For her, the joy was multiplied when receiving support on the occasion of the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union.

Because not only Ms. Ngoc but also her colleagues in difficult circumstances have put their trust in the Trade Union organization, now they have more faith in the place where they have left their affection for many years. Ms. Ngoc said that without the support of the City Labor Federation, the company, and the company's union, her family probably would never have such a spacious house.

The couple's average income is only over 10 million VND, which they have to cover from daily living expenses to their children's school fees; not to mention sick times, party days...

Ms. Ngoc's belief in the Trade Union organization comes from the concern and practicality of the Trade Union organization for her. That is, after completing the procedures, the Company's Trade Union coordinated with Ms. Ngoc's family to design the house, prepare a construction cost estimate and organize supervision during the house construction process. "The union has given us the roof of our dream for so long" - Ms. Ngoc said.

Directly presenting support to Ms. Ngoc's family, Mr. Nguyen Huy Khanh - Vice President of the Hanoi City Labor Federation congratulated and encouraged Ms. Ngoc and her family. The Vice President of the City Labor Federation said that the handover of support for the Trade Union Shelter on the occasion of the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union has a very profound meaning because it affirms the practical care and concern of the Trade Union organization for union members in difficult circumstances.

Mr. Khanh also said that every year, the City Labor Federation has just supported the repair and construction of 35 - 40 new Trade Union Shelters. In 2025, more than 30 houses were completed.

There are more and more Trade Union Shelters

Implementing the Trade Union Shelter Housing Program, period 2021-2025, despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recession, trade unions at all levels have deployed and supported the construction of 10,508 new units, repaired 3,175 units in the Trade Union Shelter with a total support amount of over 543 billion VND.

To achieve the above results, it is thanks to the efforts of the Trade Union at all levels in implementing, mobilizing, calling on organizations, individuals, philanthropists, and sponsoring union members and workers.

Localities and sectors with outstanding achievements in implementing the program are the Hanoi City Labor Federation, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City; Labor Federations of Quang Ngai, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Phu Tho provinces; Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Trade Union...

In reality, the activity of supporting and building Trade Union Shelters for union members and workers is a practical caring activity with profound humanitarian significance.

In the period of 2021 - 2025, the donation of Trade Union Shelters has become a regular activity, familiar to union members and workers, bearing the strong mark of the Trade Union organization.

On average, thousands of Trade Union Shelters have been donated to union members and workers in poor and difficult circumstances every year, demonstrating the efforts and responsibility of Trade Unions at all levels in implementation.

The Trade Union Shelter Housing Program has created attraction and spread widely, receiving the trust and support of many union members, workers and the community.
