Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen Thanh, born in 1981, has been a catering midwife at Hai An District Police (Hai Phong City) for 18 years. For the past 5 years, Ms. Thanh's second daughter has been adopted by the grassroots union as a " union adopted child".
Sharing with reporters, Ms. Thanh said that after the divorce, she adopted a young daughter born in 2004; the eldest daughter born in 2003 lives with her father, currently a final year student at the University of Maritime.
"My child went to the doctor and the doctor said he had some kind of autism. My child and I are trying to keep him in grade 12. Since my child stopped studying, my parents helped me look after him to work. I don't break it, I only say a little, so I can still take care of it" - Ms. Thanh said.
Ms. Thanh confided that the doctor asked her daughter to go for a monthly check-up, but due to lack of financial and time conditions, the child was drunk and had a driver's license, so the mother and daughter could not take each other to the doctor regularly. Currently, she regularly contacts a doctor in Hanoi to give her child prescription drugs.
After 18 years of working in the industry, Ms. Thanh's allowance is currently about 8.5 million VND/month. She still has to carry this amount of money with her ex-husband, sharing the responsibility of raising her eldest daughter to study, so life is very simple and convenient. For the past 5 years, since her second daughter was adopted by the "Union", each month she has been supported with 200,000 VND, Ms. Thanh has had an additional amount of medicine for her child.
"The teachers often collect and deposit 1 amount of money a year, earning 2.5 million VND and then send it to their children. On holidays, Tet, Mid-Autumn Festival or any occasion, children are more interested in the school, get to meet in the city, and receive gifts. I only work as a food inspector, and I feel supported by the Union, feel relieved; feel motivated to work, raise children; feel shared the burden of life... - Ms. Thanh said choking up. According to Ms. Thanh, in addition to her child, the Hai An District Police grassroots union has received 4 other cases of "Union adopted children".
Union adopted child - the focus of union activities
According to the People's Public Security Trade Union, currently, the People's Public Security Trade Union has 24,458 union members working at 24 trade unions at the grassroots level, 25 grassroots trade unions directly under the People's Public Security Trade Union and 541 grassroots trade unions directly under the grassroots level.
In 2024, union members and workers in the People's Public Security will have stable and stable jobs; union members who are workers and contract workers will have an income of 7.5 to 12.5 million VND/person/month; union members who are officers and non-commissioned officers will have an average income of about 11 million VND/person/month. However, the lives of many union members and workers still face many difficulties.
To accompany and support union members, the People's Public Security Union has supported the repair of 23 "Union Shelters" and presented 13 "Union Shelters" with a total amount of 2.5 billion VND; "Current loan support", "Famine elimination and poverty reduction", "Comradeship", "Union's adopted children", "Supporting children to school", "Taking advantage of Nguyen Duc Canh scholarship"; taking care of children of union members who are children of cadres, union members with serious illnesses, diseases, and long-term illnesses that require regular and costly medical intervention in medical examination and treatment or supporting children of union members in difficult circumstances...
In particular, the "Union adoption child" program is a focus of activities of the People's Public Security Trade Union, aiming to help children who are children of cadres, soldiers, policy families, orphans, and children of union members in the People's Public Security. Up to now, the People's Union of units and localities has received care and support for 417 children, with a total support amount of nearly 1.1 billion VND.
Lieutenant Colonel Cong Thanh Thao - Head of the People's Public Security Trade Union - said that, promoting the achieved results, in 2025, the People's Public Security Trade Union proposed 8 main groups of tasks focusing on Trade Union activities.
