The Vietnam National United Front, founded and led by the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, after 95 years of formation and development with different names, the Vietnam Fatherland Front constantly promotes the spirit of patriotism and the tradition of solidarity of the Vietnamese people - a decisive factor in the successful cause of national independence, national unity, and national construction and defense.

The role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front was not only clearly demonstrated in the period of national resistance war, building the government, reserving and keeping the government in the hands of the people, but in the current period, the Vietnam Fatherland Front continues to play a core role in many areas of social life, being an important factor in consolidating the great national unity bloc, building and developing the country.

The spirit of building the country during the transition period to socialism (supplementation and development in 2011) has been identified as: "The Vietnam Fatherland Front and People's organizations play a very important role in the cause of great national unity in building and defending the Fatherland; representing and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of the People, caring for the interests of union members and associates; implementing democracy and building a healthy society; participating in building the Party and State; educating revolutionary ideals and ethics, civil rights and obligations, strengthening the relationship between the People and the Party and the State".

The Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress not only clearly states but has also elevated the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to a " core role" to gather and promote the strength of national solidarity. The 13th National Party Congress continued to affirm the core role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in The Party leads, the State manages, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations are the core for the people to master and emphasized the core political role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front organization, which is: Strengthening the core political role and responsibility of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations in building the great national unity bloc, practicing democracy, strengthening social consensus, building a peoples heart position, promoting the strength of solidarity and consensus of the people at home and abroad to build and protect the Fatherland.

Institutionalizing the Party's guidelines and policies, the 2013 Constitution and the 2015 Law of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (amended and supplemented in 2025) clearly stipulate the role and tasks of the Vietnam Fatherland Front: "The Vietnam Fatherland Front is a part of the political system of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; is the political basis of the People's Government; gathers and promotes the strength of national solidarity; expresses the will, aspirations and promotes the mastery of the People; represents and protects the legitimate and legal rights and interests of the People; implements democracy, strengthens social consensus...".

Affirming the core role in political and social life

With policies, guidelines and legal regulations that consistently demonstrate the Party and State's viewpoints on the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, it can be seen that one of the top requirements and tasks set out in the current period is that the Vietnam Fatherland Front must affirm its core role in the country's political and social life, especially in implementing democracy, enhancing social consensus as stated in the Party Congress Documents and the Constitution, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Law, and at the same time, all activities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front must make increasingly practical contributions to social life, meeting the aspirations and expectations of the People and being recognized by the People.

The practical activities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in recent times show: The Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels has always strived to promote its role and responsibility in the political system and social life. The role and position of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has been increasingly enhanced with positive contributions to the cause of national construction and development.

In implementing democracy, the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels has demonstrated its core role in promoting the people's mastery in many fields, actively implementing democracy at the grassroots level, focusing on improving the quality of activities of the People's Inspectorate and the Community Investment Supervision Board. The task of grasping, gathering, and reflecting the opinions and recommendations of the People to State agencies is carried out by the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels.

The results of handling opinions, recommendations and aspirations of the People are gathered, reported and responded to the People through the information channels of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, socio-political organizations and member organizations. The task of monitoring, social criticism, and participating in Party building and State building of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels has been implemented more and more substantially, proactively coordinating and maintaining the implementation of the regulation that heads of Party committees and authorities should directly dialogue with the people to promptly resolve recommendations and reflections of the people...

To enhance consensus in society, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and its member organizations have coordinated with the government to actively propagate and mobilize the implementation of poverty reduction work, improve the material and spiritual life of the people, especially in ethnic minority areas, remote areas, and areas with special difficulties.

Campaigns and patriotic emulation movements continue to be innovated in content and implementation methods. The Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations actively carry out the task of representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of all classes of people, ethnic minorities, and religions; propaganda, mobilization, gathering, and solidarity of overseas Vietnamese people are organized in many diverse and rich forms; maintaining the effective organization of the "National Great Unity Day" in residential areas; promoting the tradition of "mutual love", the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels and member organizations have promptly implemented relief activities, charity, mobilization to support people in difficult circumstances, affected by epidemics, natural disasters, and natural disasters...

Most recently, on October 2, 2025, the Presidium of the Central Committee of Vietnam held a launching ceremony to support the people of the provinces to overcome the consequences of storm No. 10, responding to the call of the leaders of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, many domestic and foreign organizations and enterprises have supported through the Central Relief Mobilization Committee, as of 5:00 p.m. on November 5, 2025, organizations and individuals have registered to support 1,185.62 billion VND... with specific efforts, efforts and results, the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has been recognized and highly appreciated by sectors, levels and people. Thereby contributing to creating consensus in society, building and consolidating the great national unity bloc to become more and more solid.

The monitoring content focuses on areas directly related to people's lives

During the 2020-2025 term, the entire Vietnam Fatherland Front system has implemented 231,110 supervisions, of which: The Central level organized 31 thematic supervision delegations, 7,508 at the provincial level, 39,794 at the district level, and 183,808 at the commune level. The monitoring content focuses on areas directly related to people's lives such as land management and use, budget, environmental protection, social security, implementation of grassroots democracy regulations, corruption prevention and negativity, cadre work, etc.

Social criticism continues to be closely led by Party committees at all levels, creating favorable conditions for the Front and member organizations to participate right from the policy-making stage. Many opinions were criticized by the agencies in charge of receiving, supplementing and perfecting policies and laws, contributing to improving feasibility, being closer to reality and in line with the aspirations of the people. During his term, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front held 16 social criticism conferences, socio-political organizations commented on 19 draft documents, the Front at all levels organized 85,886 social criticism sessions (of which 6,979 were at the provincial level, 16,002 were at the district level, and 62,905 were at the commune level).

In particular, the work of supervision and criticism has been increasingly innovated in content and methods, with the participation of more and more experts, scientists, and prestigious people.

Many effective supervision models have been maintained and replicated such as: "People supervise cadres and party members", "Community investment supervision front", " housework supervision of the implementation of grassroots democracy regulations". The work of receiving and handling recommendations and wishes of voters and people has been seriously implemented, with a clear feedback mechanism, gradually improving the prestige and position of the organization.
