Secretary's practical initiative for the people
Not only measuring the heart, measuring blood pressure, but also enthusiastically guiding how to eat, sleep, rest... for us elderly people, this is more precious than money" - Ms. Sau Huong (82 years old, Tan Thoi commune) emotionally said about the activities of the "Model of health check-up for the elderly in the community initiated by Master Ho Van Son - Secretary of the Preventive Medicine Party Cell, Head of the Department of Disease Control, Tan Phu Dong Regional Health Center (Tan Phu Dong commune).
Not simply a medical activity, this is also an affirmation of the responsibility to care for the previous generation: "Near the people, close to the people - bringing healthcare to every small alley".
According to Master Son, this activity initially made the medical staff feel more extremely, but just seeing the old woman with white hair sitting in the house waiting for the doctor in joy and emotion, everyone seemed to be recharged with energy to operate.
This is one of many community health care models initiated by MSc Son. Among them are initiatives with investment costs of nearly 0 VND, but bringing efficiency to the entire commune unit. Typically, the model of raising colorful fish to kill larvae to prevent dengue fever.
As a coastal islet locality, freshwater sources in some communes are unstable, directly affecting the maintenance of the seven-color fish farming model, leading to a shortage of fish supply for people, reducing the effectiveness of the campaign. From that reality, in his role as Secretary of the Party Cell, MSc Son proposed to take advantage of existing tools in communes with stable freshwater sources for farming, and then re-coordinate with other areas.
This approach both ensures a stable fish source and saves costs, helping the dengue fever prevention campaign to be implemented continuously, without interruption as before.
Or the "Telephone support consulting channel" model, helping parents relieve worries about vaccination. When implementing 5-in-1 vaccination, it was noted that many parents were confused when their children had a fever after vaccination, especially in the evening, in which many cases, due to worry, carried their children to the health station at night, which was both tiring for the family and putting pressure on the grassroots level.... Mr. Son came up with the idea of "Telephone support consulting channel".
Accordingly, parents have a channel to contact and exchange information about the child's condition, and are guided to monitor and handle at home in normal cases. This model helps reduce pressure on medical facilities, while also bringing peace of mind to child caregivers...
According to records of the Tien Giang Provincial Department of Health, now Dong Thap, after 15 years of work, Mr. Son has chaired 15 topics and initiatives, of which 4 topics and initiatives have been recognized for their provincial-level scope of influence, such as: Deploying QR-Codes in hand, foot and mouth disease prevention, integrating disease prevention and care guidance materials at home, helping parents proactively handle them correctly, limiting complications and spread.
Turn difficulties into advantages
I like to study, so when I come to work in areas with many difficulties like Tan Phu Dong, it is sometimes an advantage..." - Mr. Son shared.
Graduating from medical school, Mr. Son was assigned to Tan Phu Dong. The newly established locality with many difficulties: remote terrain, muddy roads... and the working facilities were so simple that the entire Preventive Medicine Block of 7 people and all items were packed in a room.
With youth (born in 1988) and enthusiasm, Mr. Son immediately thought of solutions from the initiative. The first was the idea of bringing healthcare to the people. According to Son's proposal, establish a team of doctors, nurses, and technicians from the District Health Center (now the Regional Health Center) in coordination with the Commune Health Station to bring ultrasound equipment, electrocardiograms, blood pressure measuring instruments, blood glucose meters... to each hamlet to reduce travel for people. Even, they even went to the homes of elderly and weak people...
The trust of the people and the nod of leaders have fueled Son to confidently move forward. Thus, whenever difficulties arise in practice, Son finds ways to resolve them.
From that thinking, many effective models were born and implemented. Notably, the implementation of remote prevention measures combined with the design of a disinfection system... has contributed to protecting Tan Phu Dong to become the district with the lowest number of cases in Tien Giang province and the only "green zone" of the province at the time of the COVID-19 epidemic outbreak and Tan Phu Dong is also the first locality in the Mekong Delta region to allow students to return to direct schooling.
More specifically, from specific issues arising in daily work, Master Son also systematizes, researches and transforms them into topics and initiatives with high applicability. Among them, there are 8 scientific articles published in the Journal of Medicine under the list of the State Council of Professors.
This achievement not only puts Son on the personnel list proposed by the Standing Committee of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee to the Central Organization Committee to commend as the excellent Party Cell Secretary in the entire Party in 2026, but also proves the truth: if there is a heart for work and knowing how to promote the leadership role of the Party Cell Secretary, even if working in a remote land, it is still possible to research, create and effectively implement practical solutions for the people.
