Heartwarming before the New Year
Phu Huu commune (An Giang province) is a border area adjacent to Cambodia, the lives of a part of the people are still facing many difficulties. Faced with that reality, from the end of December 2025 to now, the local government has proactively reviewed and compiled a list of subjects in need of support, ensuring timely and appropriate distribution, in accordance with policies.
As a poor household, Ms. Huynh Thi Hien (resident of Phu Thanh hamlet, Phu Huu commune) shared that this Tet holiday, her family is supported by the local government with rice, gifts and cash. Material value may not be large, but for Ms. Hien's family, it is a very practical encouragement in difficult times. "Having rice for Tet meals is already very happy. This Tet, there will definitely be a hot pot of rice, braised pork to welcome the new year," Ms. Hien happily said.
Not only Ms. Hien, Ms. Le Thi My (resident of Phu Thanh hamlet, Phu Huu commune) also could not hide her joy when receiving the support. As a freelance worker, the job is sometimes there, sometimes not, precarious income makes Ms. My struggle to manage spending every year-end occasion.
According to Ms. My, the saved money is almost gone, so when she receives rice and Tet gifts, she feels much lighter. "At least for a few days of Tet, the family also has a full meal. I am poor, sometimes I feel sorry for myself. But being cared for by the State, local authorities and the hamlet like that, I feel that I am still remembered, not forgotten," Ms. My confided.
Spreading the spirit of sharing
Mr. Vo Van Dua - Vice Chairman of Phu Huu Commune People's Committee - said that the locality's point of view is not to let any people lack food during Tet. The support for rice and Tet gifts is implemented synchronously, publicly, transparently, with the supervision of the Fatherland Front Committee and mass organizations to ensure that policies reach the right beneficiaries, without omission or duplication.
Not only providing material support, the locality also organizes direct visits to policy families, people with meritorious services to the revolution, and lonely elderly people. These visits carrying Tet wishes and attentive care have contributed to easing some of the difficulties and deprivations that people are facing," Mr. Dua said.
The Vice Chairman of Phu Huu Commune People's Committee also informed that currently 28 tons of rice from the national reserve source to support people to relieve hunger during the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026, the locality is implementing to give to people. In addition, it has donated to 1,993 people with meritorious services and social protection and social pension beneficiaries, with a total amount of more than 773 million VND.

Ms. Lam Thi Ngoc Giau - Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Huu commune - shared: To make Tet care effective, proactively mobilizing resources early is a key factor. In addition to the State budget and national reserve rice, the locality also promotes socialization, calling for the joint efforts of the business community, charity organizations and philanthropists.
“We determine that taking care of Tet for the people is an important political task. In addition to the support according to regulations, the Fatherland Front, mass organizations and Phu Huu Commune People's Committee also actively mobilize more social resources to better care for the people, especially those in particularly difficult circumstances,” Ms. Giau said.
According to Ms. Giau, to date, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Huu commune has coordinated to present 2,337 gifts to policy families, poor and near-poor households, households in difficult circumstances; grassroots security forces, militia and children in special circumstances in the area. These meaningful rice bags, Tet gifts, although simple, contain sharing, contributing to helping people have more faith and motivation to welcome a more complete Tet.
