On August 10, the 1st Congress of the Lao Cai Provincial Union of Literature and Arts, term 2026-2031, was just held with the participation of more than 300 delegates.
With the theme "Solidarity - Innovation - Creativity - Development", the Congress assessed the results of activities in the past time, proposed directions and tasks for the new term in the context that Lao Cai and Yen Bai have merged, expanding creative space for the team of artists.
Speaking at the Congress, Mr. Do Hong Quan - Non-professional Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literary and Art Associations - emphasized that Lao Cai has a rich source of materials from nature, scenic spots and cultural treasures of ethnic minorities.
According to Mr. Do Hong Quan, values such as Phan Xi Pang, Sa Pa, Y Ty, Mu Cang Chai terraced fields, Muong Lo valley and many intangible cultural heritages are sources of inspiration for artists to create valuable works.
He proposed that the Association proactively bring literature and art to participate in local economic development, contributing to building cultural industries, enriching heritage values, scenic spots and tourism products.

At the same time, the Association needs to promote digital transformation, applying technology and artificial intelligence to creation, storage and promotion of works.
Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial Fatherland Front Committee Nguyen The Phuoc affirmed that culture is the spiritual foundation of society, the endogenetic strength and an important driving force for sustainable development.
The province will continue to create conditions for artists to promote their talents, creative aspirations, and have more quality works, contributing to promoting the image, people and cultural identity of Lao Cai.
The Congress elected the Executive Committee of term I consisting of 15 members. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Yen holds the position of Chairwoman of the Association; two Vice Chairmen are Mr. Nguyen Thanh Long and Mr. Nguyen Tuan Vu.
In the 2026-2031 term, the Association strives to admit 5-7 new members each year, organize at least 4 creative camps and create about 1,000 literary and artistic works throughout the term.
Currently, the Association has 292 members, of which 131 are members of central specialized associations. In the period 2020-2026, artists in the province have more than 900 works that have won international, regional and national awards.
The Association has also published 12 books, organized 61 exhibitions, 26 creative camps and 31 literary and artistic creation contests.
The activities contribute to creating a creative environment, bringing works closer to the public and continuing to promote the role of literature and art in preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups.
