Vietnam Fatherland Front through congresses

After the country's reunification, to suit the requirements and tasks of building and protecting the Fatherland in the new era, the Fatherland Front organizations of the two regions unified into the Vietnam Fatherland Front. Since then, the Vietnam Fatherland Front has gone through 10 congresses.

1st Congress (Period 1977 - 1983)

The Congress was held from January 31 to February 4, 1977 at the Reunification Hall, Ho Chi Minh City, merging 3 organizations: Vietnam Fatherland Front, National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, Alliance of National, Democratic and Peace Forces of Vietnam, named Vietnam Fatherland Front.

The Congress consulted and introduced 191 members to participate in the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. The Presidium includes: 45 members, the Secretariat includes: 7 members. Honorary President: Comrade Ton Duc Thang; President: Comrade Hoang Quoc Viet.

II Congress (Period 1983 - 1988)

The Congress was held from May 12 to May 14, 1983 at Ba Dinh Hall, Hanoi Capital. The action program of the Congress was to direct all activities of the Front into practice, towards grassroots levels, towards residential areas. The Congress elected the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term II, including: 184 members, the Presidium including: 45 members, and the Secretariat including: 8 members.

Honorary Chairman: Comrade Hoang Quoc Viet; Chairman: Architect Huynh Tan Phat; Secretary General: Comrade Nguyen Van Tien.

3rd Congress (Period 1988 - 1994)

The Congress was held from November 2nd to November 4th, 1988 at Ba Dinh Hall, Hanoi Capital. This was a Congress demonstrating the great strength of the entire people united in carrying out the renovation cause. The Congress elected the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term III, including: 166 members, the Presidium including: 30 members, and the Secretariat including: 6 members.

Honorary Chairman: Comrade Hoang Quoc Viet; Chairman: Lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho; Vice Chairman: Lawyer Phan Anh; Vice Chairman cum General Secretary: Comrade Pham Van Kiet.

IV Congress (Period 1994 - 1999)

The Congress was held from August 17 to August 19, 1994 at Ba Dinh Hall, Hanoi Capital. More than 600 delegates attended the congress. The Congress elected the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term IV, including: 206 members. In which the Presidium included: 40 members, the Standing Committee of the Presidium included: 7 members.

Honorary Chairman: Comrade Nguyen Huu Tho; Chairman: Comrade Le Quang Dao; Secretary General: Comrade Tran Van Dang.

V Congress (Period 1999 - 2004)

The Congress was held from August 26 to August 28, 1999 at Ba Dinh Hall, Hanoi Capital. 621 delegates attended the Congress, which is the Congress "Promoting patriotism, the strength of the great national unity bloc, strengthening the National United Front, promoting industrialization and modernization, building and protecting the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland".

The Congress elected the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term V, including: 253 members, the Presidium including: 45 members; the Standing Committee including: 9 members; Chairman: Comrade Pham The Duyet; Secretary General: Comrade Tran Van Dang.

6th Congress (2004 - 2009 term)

The Congress was held from September 21 to September 23, 2004 at Ba Dinh Hall, Hanoi Capital. 878 delegates attended the Congress, which is the Congress "Promoting the strength of the great national unity to enhance the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in promoting the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country, for the goal of a rich people and a strong country, a fair, democratic, and civilized society".

The Congress elected the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term VI, including: 320 members, the Presidium including: 52 members, the Standing Committee including: 8 members; Chairman: Comrade Pham The Duyet; Vice Chairman cum Secretary General: Comrade Huynh Dam.

* The 5th Conference of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, 6th term, held in Hanoi (January 2008), consulted and elected the new positions of Chairman and Vice Chairman cum General Secretary: Chairman: Comrade Huynh Dam (replacing Comrade Pham The Duyet who retired under the regime); Vice Chairman cum General Secretary: Comrade Vu Trong Kim.

VII Congress (Term 2009 - 2014)

The Congress was held from September 28 to September 30, 2009 at the My Dinh National Convention Center, Hanoi Capital. The congress was attended by 1,300 delegates, including 989 official delegates and 311 guest delegates. The theme of the Congress was "Enhancing the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, promoting democracy, strengthening social consensus, building a great national unity bloc for a rich people, a strong country, a fair, democratic, and civilized society". The Congress elected the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term VII, including: 355 members, Presidium including: 58 members, Standing Committee including: 9 members; Chairman: Comrade Huynh Dam; Vice Chairman cum Secretary General: Comrade Vu Trong Kim.

* The 6th Conference of the 7th Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front held in Hanoi (September 5, 2013) consulted and elected comrade Nguyen Thien Nhan to hold the position of Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, replacing comrade Huynh Dam who retired under the regime.

VIII Congress (Term 2014 - 2019)

The Congress will meet from September 25 to 27, 2014 at the My Dinh National Convention Center, Hanoi Capital. 1,008 official delegates attended the congress. The theme of the Congress is: "Promoting the strength of great national unity, building and protecting the Fatherland in the new situation, for a rich people, a strong country, democracy, fairness, and civilization".

The Congress elected the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of the VIII term including: 383 members, the Presidium including: 62 members, the Standing Committee including: 6 members. Chairman: Comrade Nguyen Thien Nhan; Vice Chairman - Secretary General: Comrade Vu Trong Kim.

* The 5th Conference of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VIII term) held in Hanoi (April 14, 2016) consulted and elected comrade Tran Thanh Man, Member of the Party Central Committee, as Vice Chairman - Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front VIII term, replacing comrade Vu Trong Kim who retired under the regime.

* The 7th Conference of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VIII term) held in Hanoi (June 22, 2017) consulted and elected comrade Tran Thanh Man as Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to replace comrade Nguyen Thien Nhan who transferred to another job.

* The 8th Conference of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VIII term) held in Ho Chi Minh City (January 5, 2018) consulted and elected Comrade Hau A Lenh as Vice Chairman - Secretary General replacing Comrade Tran Thanh Man as Chairman.

IX Congress (Term 2019 - 2024)

The IX National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (term 2019 - 2024) took place on September 18, 19 and 20, 2019 at the My Dinh National Convention Center, Hanoi Capital with the participation of 999 official delegates representing member organizations, classes, classes, 54 brotherly ethnic groups, religions, people's armed forces, overseas Vietnamese and full-time Front officials at all levels.

The theme of the Congress: "Promoting the strength of the great national unity, improving the quality and efficiency of the activities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, for a prosperous people, a strong country, democracy, fairness, and civilization". The Congress consulted and elected 374 members of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. At the first session, the 9th Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (term 2019 - 2024) consulted and elected the Presidium of the 9th Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term 2019 - 2024, including 62 members. The Standing Committee includes 6 members. Chairman: Comrade Tran Thanh Man; Vice Chairman - Secretary General: Comrade Hau A Lenh.

* The 4th Conference of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (IX term) held in Hanoi (April 12, 2021) consulted and elected Comrade Do Van Chien, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Delegation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to participate in the Committee, Presidium and hold the position of Chairman of the 9th Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, replacing Comrade Tran Thanh Man who transferred to another job.

* The 5th Conference of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (IX term) organized in the form of direct meetings combined with online meetings (June 30, 2021) consulted and elected Comrade Le Tien Chau, Member of the Party Central Committee, to hold the position of Vice Chairman - Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, replacing Comrade Hau A Lenh who transferred to another job.

* The 8th Conference of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (IX term) held in Hanoi (March 15, 2023) consulted and elected Comrade Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Member of the Party Central Committee to hold the position of Vice Chairman - Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to replace Comrade Le Tien Chau who transferred to another job.

10th Congress (Term 2024 - 2029)

The 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (term 2024 - 2029) took place on October 16, 17, 18, 2024 at the National Convention Center, Hanoi Capital with the participation of 1,052 official delegates, representing all classes of people in the country and Vietnamese people abroad; more than 300 guest delegates who are leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front; representatives of leaders of central departments, ministries, and branches; representatives of provincial and city Party committees directly under the Central Government; representatives of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Labor Heroes in the renovation period; representatives of a number of embassies and international organizations in Vietnam. The theme of the Congress: "Solidarity - Democracy - Innovation - Creativity - Development".

The Congress consulted and elected 397 members to participate in the 10th Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term 2024 - 2029. The first Conference of the 10th Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front democratically consulted and elected 67 members to participate in the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

Comrade Do Van Chien, Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Delegation, Chairman of the 9th Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term 2019 - 2024, continued to be highly trusted, consulted and elected to hold the position of Chairman of the 10th Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term 2024 - 2029; Comrade Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Member of the Party Central Committee, was consulted and elected to hold the position of Vice Chairman - Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

* The 4th Conference of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term X on July 10, 2025, consulted and elected Comrade Ha Thi Nga, Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Fatherland Front, and central organizations to participate in the Committee, Presidium and hold the position of Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term X, term 2024-2029.

* The fifth Conference, term X, Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front on November 7, 2025 unanimously consulted and elected Comrade Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and central organizations to participate in the Central Committee, Presidium, Standing Committee and hold the position of Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front term X, term 2024 - 2029.

* The 6th Conference of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, X term on January 14, 2026, consulted and elected Comrade Ha Thi Nga, Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Central mass organizations, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to hold the position of Vice Chairman - Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

11th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (term 2026-2031)

With the consent of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, the 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term 2026-2031 will take place on May 11, 12 and 13, 2026 in Hanoi Capital.

The Congress has the theme: "Solidarity - Democracy - Innovation - Creativity - Development". The Congress was attended by more than 1,300 delegates.

The title of the Political Report of the Congress is "Enhancing the core political role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in promoting democracy, patriotism, the strength of great national unity, building a rich, prosperous, civilized, and happy country".
