The ceremony was chaired by the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the Military Bank (MB). Mr. Do Van Chien - Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Fatherland Front, Central organizations, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front - attended and spoke at the ceremony.
The launching ceremony was attended by members of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long, Chairman of the National Committee for the Elderly in Vietnam; representatives of leaders of ministries, departments, branches, unions at the central, local levels and international organizations.
The launching ceremony affirmed the determination of the Party, State and the whole society in caring for and promoting the role of the elderly - a force rich in intelligence and experience, continuing to accompany the entire nation in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Chairman of the Association of the Elderly in Vietnam, 2025 is the 11th year of organizing the launching ceremony of the Month of Action for the Elderly in Vietnam, which is increasingly practical and effective, creating a widespread spread in society, highly appreciated by the United Nations. Thereby, it shows that the Party, State and the whole society always uphold, honor, and join hands to care for the elderly to live happily, healthily, and happily, continue to promote their intelligence, experience and prestige in the community and society, contributing to the strong, prosperous and happy development of the country.
In recent times, the Humanitarian Program "Bright Eye for the Elderly" has become a regular task of the Associations at all levels. With the attention of Party committees, authorities, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels, many domestic and foreign agencies, organizations, businesses, and individuals have actively participated in supporting and achieving good results with more than 3.6 million elderly people being examined and consulted for eye diseases; 541,571 elderly people being treated for eye diseases, cataracts; 258,000 elderly people being given glasses to improve their vision. This is a noble gesture, deeply humane, a practical work that contributes to improving the effectiveness of caring for the elderly.
A highlight is the "Bright Eye for the Elderly" Program with the goal of having over 90% of the elderly examined and screened for eyes, 100% of cataracts treated by 2028. In the 2020-2024 period, the program examined and consulted 3.6 million people; performed glass replacement surgery for more than 541,000 people; donated 258,000 glasses to improve vision, with a total cost of over 513 billion VND.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien said that the elderly are the precious capital of the nation, like banyan trees, Tallow trees, shade of the countryside, a support for children, a treasure trove of experience, a humane example for future generations to follow. In daily life, many outstanding examples in all fields of production and business, in preserving and promoting national cultural identity, in humanitarian and charitable activities, in the movement to protect national security, are highly appreciated by the Party, State and society.
The spirit of the Red River Conference will forever be the pride of the nation, the quintessence of Vietnamese culture. The Party and the State always care about and attach importance to the work of the elderly, so that the elderly are protected, cared for, honored and promoted in knowledge, experience and prestige according to their abilities, continuing to contribute to the revolutionary cause of the Party, to society and to the family.
On behalf of the leaders of the Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien highly appreciated the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly for coordinating with the Ministry of Health and the Military Bank to organize the Action Month for the Elderly in 2025 and implement the humanitarian Program "Bright Eye for the Elderly" for the 2025-2028 period; deeply grasp the viewpoints and guidelines of the Party and the profound instructions of General Secretary To Lam: "The elderly are a precious asset, actious cow of the nation, caring for and promoting the role of the elderly and the responsibility of the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire army. We not only care about making them live happily, healthy, and happy, but also create conditions for them to continue to give advice and inspire the younger generation, contributing to building a rich, humane, and modern society".
Mr. Do Van Chien suggested that Party committees and authorities at all levels, ministries, departments, branches, and social organizations proactively review and evaluate the results of implementing policies and laws on the elderly, such as Decision No. 383 of the Prime Minister approving the National Strategy for the Elderly to 2035, with a vision to 2045; Decision No. 379 of the Prime Minister approving the Project " Elderly people participate in promoting digital transformation, green transformation, start-ups and job creation"; thereby recommending amendments and supplements to the Law on the Elderly in 2009 and proposing more appropriate mechanisms and policies to care for and protect the elderly to have an increasingly better material and spiritual life.
Along with that, pay attention to creating conditions for the Vietnam Association of the Elderly to arrange and strengthen the organization according to a new model, closely attached to the residential area; create more favorable conditions for the elderly to operate; do better in caring for, protecting and promoting the elderly, creating a spreading force in society. This is also a condition for the younger generation and children to repay and show hospitality to their ancestors.
Mr. Do Van Chien hopes that domestic and foreign organizations and individuals will join hands, contribute and support resources so that the "Bright Eye for the Elderly" Humanitarian Program and the cause of protecting, caring for and promoting the role of the elderly will become better and better, thereby practically helping the elderly living in poor households, near-poor households, and disadvantaged households in border areas, islands, and ethnic minority areas.
Each brightened eye of the elderly is a precious gift, a love and humanity, as the Vietnamese people have the saying: aged glasses, aged to age, Mr. Do Van Chien emphasized and believed that this launching ceremony will achieve good results; the activities of the Association of the Elderly at all levels from the Central to the grassroots level will be increasingly effective, contributing to the practical successful implementation of the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on the protection, care and promotion of the role of the elderly.
The elderly in all regions of the country continue to promote the tradition of Age of Rising guong to accompany the entire Party, people and army in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, contributing to building a strong, prosperous, civilized and happy country in the new era, Mr. Do Van Chien hopes.
At the launching ceremony, Chairman Do Van Chien and delegates performed the launching ceremony to support the Humanitarian Program "Bright Eye for the Elderly" for the period 2025-2028; presented gifts to the elderly over 90 years old attending the program.
