Mo Cay children exchange plastic waste for meaningful school supplies

Vinh Long - The activity of exchanging plastic waste for school supplies in Mo Cay commune attracted nearly 1,000 children to participate, contributing to raising environmental awareness.

The Standing Committee of the Commune Youth Union and the Mo Cay Commune Youth Union Council organized the model "Exchanging plastic waste for school supplies" at the Temple of Martyrs of the old Mo Cay town. This is a practical activity to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Pioneer Youth Union (May 15, 1941 - May 15, 2026).

The program attracted nearly 1,000 children and students in the commune to participate. Here, they brought many plastic bottles, cans of water, scrap paper, old newspapers, cardboard and recyclable waste to exchange for notebooks, pens, rulers, gourds, raincoats and many practical school supplies.

As a result, the Organizing Committee collected 558kg of plastic waste and other recycled waste. The total cost of implementing the model is more than 7 million VND.

N.C.T, a student at Mo Cay Elementary School 1, said that she finds the activity very meaningful, helping students raise awareness of environmental protection, know how to sort waste and maintain a green - clean - beautiful landscape.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Trong - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Mo Cay commune - said that the activity "Exchanging plastic waste for school supplies" not only contributes to reducing environmental pollution but also creates a useful playground for children. Thereby, contributing to educating the sense of responsibility for the living environment, spreading the spirit of living green and living beautifully in the community.

According to Mr. Trong, in the coming time, the funding collected from selling plastic waste after the program will continue to be funded to maintain and replicate the model in the coming time.
