Hanoi - On the morning of June 17, the solemn session of the VIII National Congress of the Vietnam Veterans Association, term 2026-2031 took place.

General Secretary and President To Lam attends the solemn session of the VIII Congress of the Vietnam Veterans Association.

Also attending were: former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; former Politburo Member, former President Luong Cuong; Politburo Members: National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man; Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Bui Thi Minh Hoai; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Organization Commission Nguyen Duy Ngoc; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Trinh Van Quyet; General Phan Van Giang - Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense; General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army and many former Party and State leaders attended the solemn session of the Congress.

Also attending were representatives of leaders of many ministries, departments, and branches; veteran revolutionaries, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces; Labor Heroes of the renovation period...

International delegates included the delegation of the Lao Veterans Association, the Cambodian Veterans and Retired Association.

The 8th National Congress, term 2026-2031, has the theme: "Promoting the nature of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", the tradition of "Loyalty - solidarity - exemplary - innovation", building a clean and strong Veterans Association at all levels, excellently completing all tasks".

The Congress was attended by 456 delegates, representing more than 3 million members nationwide.

This Congress has the task of summarizing and truthfully and comprehensively evaluating the results, achievements and weaknesses and shortcomings, drawing out the most practical lessons learned in the activities and work of building the Association in term VII; deciding on directions, targets, tasks, and solutions for term VIII; considering amending and supplementing the Association's Charter to suit the new situation; at the same time, selecting and electing the 8th Central Executive Committee of the Association, including comrades with sufficient qualities and leadership capacity to complete all assigned tasks.

Yesterday morning (June 16), the VIII National Congress of the Vietnam Veterans Association, term 2026-2031, opened its first session.

The Congress elected the Presidium, the Secretariat, the Appraisal Board for delegate qualifications of the Congress; approved the Program and Working Regulations of the Congress; review report of the 7th Central Executive Committee of the Association; summary report of opinions participating in the draft documents of the Congress; summary report on the implementation of the Association's Charter; report on the results of the appraisal of delegate qualifications; report on the Personnel Project of the 8th Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association; approved the list of candidates for the 8th Central Executive Committee of the Association; disseminated regulations during the Congress.

In the afternoon of the same day, the Congress proceeded to elect members of the Central Executive Committee of the 8th Vietnam Veterans Association, term 2026-2031.

With high confidence, the Congress elected 88 comrades to the Executive Committee of the 8th Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association, term 2026-2031.
