So Vietnam has its 6th centrally-governed city. However, unlike the 5 "older brothers" in the same group as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Can Tho before, Hue has very interesting highlights and differences.
First of all, the centrally-governed city of Hue is larger than any other city in the country today, with a total area of more than 5,000 square kilometers, but a population of only more than 1.16 million people.
Hue City is also different because of the following factors: This is an ancient capital, a heritage city, a typical Festival city of Vietnam, with all the elements: Rivers, mountains, seas, lagoons, hills, special-use forests, nature reserves...
Hue City, when directly under the Central Government, is also different from other cities with a very specific mission, with its own path, set out in Resolution No. 54-NQ/TW as "to become a centrally-run city on the basis of preserving and promoting the heritage values of the Ancient Capital and Hue's cultural identity with cultural, heritage, ecological, landscape, environmentally friendly and intelligent characteristics".
It should be noted that the National Assembly's passing of the Resolution on the establishment of Hue City under the Central Government on the morning of November 30 was a historic moment of great significance, recognizing and marking outstanding achievements in implementing the policy of promoting urbanization associated with urban economic development of the whole country.
However, this moment also posed many difficult problems for Hue.
“Hue deserves to be a centrally-governed city” - as General Secretary To Lam stated on the morning of October 31, when National Assembly delegates discussed in groups about the establishment of Hue city directly under the central government.
But for Hue to remain worthy of being a centrally-governed city, Hue must show its difference by soon "turning heritage into assets" with specific figures contributing to the budget as well as creating wealth for the people.
The internal strength to move up to the Central level of Hue is culture, heritage, the green, clean and beautiful living environment... And these internal strengths must be promoted more strongly in the future.
Hue must "line its nest" beautifully and airy to welcome many domestic and foreign "eagles" to invest.
Finally, Hue must show its people the difference of being citizens of “Hue city” - a centrally-governed city instead of “Thua Thien Hue province” as before, from quality of life, living environment, services, jobs to public administrative procedures, attitudes of public authorities...
The joy of “going to the Central Government” is actually “short-lived”. So what people care about and expect, in the end, is still the positive change from the basic living values that the local government creates for them, so concrete that it can be touched and measured!
