Resolution 71-NQ/TW has set out specific and challenging goals such as in the next 5 years, at least 8 higher education institutions in the top 200 universities in Asia and one higher education institution in the top 100 universities in the world in some fields according to prestigious international rankings.
On June 19, the QS organization announced the world university rankings in 2026. Vietnam has 10 representatives, of which Duy Tan University is ranked 482nd and Ton Duc Thang University is ranked 684. Hanoi National University is ranked in group 761-770. Ho Chi Minh City National University is in the 801-850 group.
With the current upgrading momentum, by 2030, the goal of a Vietnamese university entering the "top 100" is not too far away. The task is placed on the shoulders of the education sector, but universities need to have a strategy to register themselves in the list of "top" schools in Asia and the world.
The Politburo also requires special and outstanding mechanisms to be invested in to develop 3 to 5 elite universities according to the model of international-class research universities, training national talents.
Science and technology develop like a storm, to catch up with advanced countries with technology products that change the world, it is necessary to have leading intellectuals and scientists, the quintessence of the country and of international stature.
To have the elite, there must be elite universities, mastering the training of talents, combined with studying abroad, international cooperation, and access to advanced higher education institutions.
The elite intellectuals are primarily human resources for universities, they are the "celebrity" to train the next generation of elite. Those people do both teaching and scientific research, and are creative and invent smart technology products and applications to serve the needs of development.
In addition to human resources, facilities must also be invested in and modern equipment for testing and scientific research. The income of scientists and university teachers must be high, equivalent to that of leading universities in the region.
Implementing Resolution 71, it is discovered that nurturing and respecting talent will have talented people who are the "national gas".
