Fried spring rolls are a traditional dish favored by many families, especially during holidays and Tet. The crispy, fragrant, and fatty taste makes it difficult for many people to stop chopsticks. However, according to nutrition experts, if eaten uncontrollably, this delicious dish can become a "burden" for the body.
Calories increase sharply after frying
100g of unfried spring rolls contains about 145 calories, but after being deep-fried, this number can increase to 235 calories. The reason is that the crust and filling absorb a significant amount of oil during processing.
Fried spring rolls are usually made from minced meat, vermicelli, eggs, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms and spices. This is a dish that provides energy, protein and some micronutrients. However, the biggest disadvantage is that the fat content increases when fried.
Each meal should only eat 1-2 servings.
Nutrition expert Nguyen Thi Thuong - Department of Nutrition, Tam Anh General Hospital Hanoi - recommends that adults should not eat too many fried spring rolls in one meal.
An average adult needs about 2,000 calories/day. In meals with many energy-rich dishes like Tet, each person should only eat 1-2 spring rolls/meal, avoiding eating continuously throughout the day causing excess energy.
Eat with green vegetables to balance
Fried spring rolls should be eaten with raw vegetables, pickled vegetables or fiber-rich dishes. Green vegetables help:
Anti-overcrowding, reduce bloating
Digestive support
Balancing fat intake in meals
Experts also note to limit eating fried spring rolls in the evening, when the body is less active, easily causing indigestion and accumulating excess fat.
Avoid frying over and over again.
Many families have a habit of making fermented pork rolls in large quantities and then frying them many times. This not only reduces nutritional value but can also generate harmful substances for health due to oil changes.
Only make spring rolls in sufficient quantities
If not used immediately, freeze raw spring rolls.
Use for 2–3 days
After thawing, fry immediately, do not leave it for too long at room temperature.
Eat in moderation to maintain the full deliciousness
Fried spring rolls are not a "taboo" dish. The problem lies in the way of eating and frequency. Controlling portion sizes, combining green vegetables and processing reasonably will help you still enjoy traditional dishes without affecting your weight, blood pressure or cardiovascular health.
