On September 12, information from the National Children's Hospital, the Department of Intensive Care of Internal Medicine received a 10-year-old child from Bac Ninh in critical condition after mistakenly taking rat poison containing the active ingredient Natri fluoroacetate - a highly toxic substance that can cause multiple organ failure and die quickly if not treated promptly.
According to the family, they had previously bought 6 tubes of rat poison hanging in the restroom. The child accidentally drank a tube and quickly fell into a state of difficulty breathing, purple, and convulsions. The patient was given emergency care at a local medical facility, transferred to the provincial level and then urgently taken to the National Children's Hospital.

The child was admitted to the hospital with respiratory failure, circulatory failure, deep coma, continuous seizures, arrhythmia and acute kidney damage. The E-team applied a series of intensive resuscitation measures: ventilator, vasopressor, cardiorapopulmonary disorder doctor, continuous blood filtration to support kidney function, anti-encephaly treatment to limit brain damage. The test results of blood samples, urine and drugsuits were all positive for Natri fluoroacetate.
MSc. Dr. Tran Dang Xoay - Department of Intensive Care of Internal Medicine - warned: Just a small amount of this substance is enough to cause cardiac arrest, damage to the brain, liver, kidneys and death. The danger is that the drug Tube is white, without labels, easily confused with probiotics or oral medications for children and can be easily purchased at the market or online.
After 48 hours of treatment, the patient's condition was still very serious, he was in a deep coma and had difficulty predicting. Even after the critical stage, the possibility of leaving neurological sequelae is still high.
Doctors recommend the storage and use of chemicals in the family: Put drugs and toxic chemicals in high places, sealed, away from reaching children; Do not contain chemicals in water bottles or eye-catching packaging; Teach children to absolutely not drink strange solutions without permission from adults; Always supervise children, especially in risky areas such as warehouses, toilets, kitchens; When children show signs of poisoning (venting, difficulty breathing, convulsions, coma), take them to the nearest medical facility, do not self-treat.
