After more than 10 years of waiting, in the afternoon of July 9, 2026, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital Ninh Binh facility will officially go into operation.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Duc Hung, Director of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, said that the Ninh Binh facility will operate in two phases. In the first phase, the hospital puts into operation 300 beds, mobilizing more than 400 doctors, nurses and medical staff from the Hanoi facility to work.
Every day, doctors and medical staff will have cars to pick up and drop off from Viet Duc Friendship Hospital in Hanoi to Ninh Binh.
By the end of 2027, the scale will be increased to 1,000 beds; in case the demand for medical examination and treatment increases, the hospital will accelerate the expansion progress.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Duc Hung, the biggest challenge of the surgical field is high-quality human resources. Therefore, the hospital has proactively trained staff from many years ago to be ready to operate the new facility with a modern equipment system. At the same time, the hospital arranges vehicles to transport staff, rotates key staff between the two facilities and maintains 24/7 shifts to ensure smooth operation.
In the initial phase, Ninh Binh facility focused on developing 4 specialized groups that are overloaded in Hanoi, including orthopedic trauma, spinal trauma, neurosurgery - cranial surgery combined with functional rehabilitation and digestive surgery.
The hospital is invested in 44 sterile operating rooms that meet modern standards, of which 12 operating rooms are put into operation from the early stages, meeting the surgical needs of patients.
The Viet Duc Friendship Hospital Ninh Binh facility project was approved by the Ministry of Health in 2014 with a scale of 1,000 beds per hospital, with a total investment of nearly 10,000 billion VND.
Viet Duc Friendship Hospital facility 2 is built on a land area of more than 21 hectares in Ninh Binh, with a total floor area of nearly 120,000 m2, total investment of nearly 5,000 billion VND. According to the initial plan, phase I was expected to be completed in February 2016 and the entire project to be completed at the end of 2017. However, after starting construction, the project encountered many problems with capital, planning and equipment, causing the progress to be prolonged and construction to be temporarily suspended for many years.
The hospital is oriented to become a modern, synchronous surgical center, focusing on developing key specialties such as orthopedic trauma, neurosurgery, brain surgery, head-face-neck surgery, thoracic surgery, spinal surgery, emergency surgery, intensive care and outpatient emergency care. With a modern equipment system and a team of highly qualified doctors and nurses, this facility is expected to become a center for treating severe and high-tech cases in the region.
