On the morning of October 2, 2025, at Hue Central Hospital, patient H.T.N (45 years old) was discharged from the hospital after a cross-Vietnam heart transplant from a donated heart in Phu Tho, in a state of stable health.
The transplantation began on September 10, when the donated heartbeat in Phu Tho was transported to Hue.
The patient had previously had end-stage heart failure, very low heart function, severe pulmonary hypertension, and used ECMO and a circulatory aid.
After more than 3 weeks of active resuscitation, the heart recovered to LVEF 55 - 60%, the index was stable.
Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep - Director of Hue Central Hospital said that the successful heart transplant was thanks to close coordination between many units, from organ donation, tissue transportation to the heart transplant and resuscitation team.
