Patient L.T. D, 17 years old, residing in Gia Rai ward, Ca Mau province, was transferred from Gia Rai General Hospital to Bac Lieu General Hospital with symptoms of low blood pressure, shortness of breath, raised neck veins and a penetrating wound in the left chest of about 1cm.
According to family members, due to conflicts with relatives, while unable to control his emotions, the patient used scissors to stab himself in the chest, causing a heart puncture.
Immediately upon admission, Bac Lieu General Hospital immediately activated the "hospital red alert" procedure. Doctor CKII Tran Van Trieu - Head of General Surgery Department, who directly performed the surgery - said that the heart wound is a very serious, rare injury in chest trauma, with a high mortality rate, most patients do not have time to get to the hospital.

The team had to race against time to stitch the left ventricle wound, treat the punctured pulmonary parenchyma and drain the pleural media to save the patient's life," Dr. Trieu informed.
After surgery, patient D has passed the critical condition, his health is stable, he can eat lightly and is expected to be discharged from the hospital in the next few days.
According to Bac Lieu General Hospital, the success of the surgery not only demonstrated professional capacity but also showed the effectiveness of the "red alert" process in inter-departmental coordination, contributing to improving the ability to save patients in emergency situations.
