Lao Cai - From 2026, the province strives for 100% of people to have health check-ups or free screenings at least once a year.

On May 28, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee informed that the province has just issued Plan No. 256 on organizing periodic health check-ups and free screenings at least once a year for people in the area in the period 2026-2030.

According to the plan, by the end of the second quarter of 2026, the province strives for 50% of people to have periodic health check-ups or free screenings.

From 2026, the goal is to maintain 100% of people having health check-ups or free screenings at least once a year.

Along with the organization of examinations, 100% of people after examinations will be recorded for monitoring and updated into electronic health records.

The examination content is carried out according to the professional guidance of the Ministry of Health, suitable for each target group to assess health status, classify health, detect early risk of disease and advise on treatment or transfer when necessary.

Priority groups include the elderly, people with disabilities, poor and near-poor households, people with meritorious services to the revolution, people with chronic diseases, people in ethnic minority areas, difficult areas, children, students, workers, social protection beneficiaries and freelancers.

In addition to periodic health check-ups, the province also implements screening to detect many dangerous diseases early such as hypertension, diabetes, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cancer, mental disorders; and at the same time perform prenatal, neonatal screening and early disability intervention in children.

According to the roadmap, localities must complete the review and list 100% of the population according to each target group before May 31, 2026; organize provincial-level launching ceremonies and deploy examinations for priority groups to achieve the goal of 50% of people being examined in the second quarter of 2026.

To effectively implement, the province requests to promote propaganda to raise people's awareness about the benefits of periodic health check-ups, screening check-ups and the use of electronic health records on VNeID.

Examination organization will be carried out flexibly at medical facilities, schools, businesses or mobile in the community to facilitate people's participation.

The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Health as the standing agency to preside over the implementation of the plan; coordinate with departments, branches, and localities to review subjects, organize medical examinations, and manage electronic health data.

Agencies, units, and businesses are responsible for organizing periodic health check-ups for officials, civil servants, public employees, and employees according to regulations.
