Lao Cai pioneers the implementation of a free health check-up campaign for people

Lao Cai - On June 5, the province launched a peak period of periodic health check-ups and free screening for people.

At the Southern Industrial Park, Mr. Duong Quoc Huy - Secretary of Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee and Mr. Le Duc Luan - Deputy Minister of Health attended the launching ceremony of periodic health check-ups and free screening for people in 2026.

Mr. Duong Quoc Huy emphasized that although Lao Cai is a mountainous border province with many difficulties, it always pays special attention to the work of protecting, caring for and improving people's health.

Implementing Resolution No. 72 of the Politburo, Lao Cai determined to strongly shift from a healing mindset to proactive health care; from treatment when already sick to early and remote disease prevention; from disease management to universal health management according to the life cycle.

This is one of the important solutions to improve the quality of life, ensure social security and sustainable development.

According to a report by the health sector, by the end of May 2026, the whole province had 595,377 people undergoing periodic health check-ups or free screening, reaching 35.1% of the population.

In which, more than 52,500 people have had periodic health check-ups; hundreds of thousands of people have undergone screening for hypertension, diabetes and high-risk non-communicable diseases.

In the next peak period, Lao Cai will organize health check-ups for more than 383,000 people belonging to priority groups such as cadres, civil servants, public employees; employees in enterprises; children under 24 months old; people at high risk of hypertension and other non-communicable diseases.

Lao Cai is one of the pioneering localities in the country to implement the free health check-up program for all people in 2026.

The province sets a target that in June, over 50% of people will have health check-ups or free screening; by the end of 2026, 100% of people will have access to health check-up services at least once and maintain periodic annual check-ups.

Also on the morning of June 5, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh - Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee inspected the organization of periodic health check-ups, free screening check-ups and visited people participating in check-ups in Yen Binh commune.

Implementing the plan of the Provincial People's Committee on organizing periodic health check-ups for the people, Yen Binh commune deploys a centralized health check-up point for 3 days, from June 5 to June 7, it is expected that about 1,000 people will be examined, health counseled and screened for common diseases.

At the examination point, the Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee inspected the organization, reception process, and screening examination; At the same time, he acknowledged and praised the spirit of responsibility of the medical team and forces participating in the program.

According to records at the points, the medical team and doctors organized general examinations, ultrasounds, blood tests, ear-nose-throat examinations and health consultations for people, workers, and laborers.
