On February 11, 2025, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in collaboration with the Hanoi Youth Blood Donation Association held the opening ceremony of the 18th Spring Festival with the message "Spring Blood Donation - Multiplying Happiness". This is the largest blood donation event at the beginning of the year, spreading the spirit of humanity and love for the community.
Before the official opening, in just 3 days (February 8-10), despite the cold weather, nearly 3,000 units of blood were received, demonstrating the noble gesture of the voluntary blood donation community.
The Spring Festival was first held in 2008 to overcome the blood shortage after Tet. Since 2010, the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation has included this event in the campaign "Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign for Tet - Spring Festival", spreading across the country. Through 17 events, hundreds of thousands of people have donated blood, in Hanoi alone, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion has received nearly 120,000 units of blood.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh - Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion shared: “The Spring Festival is not simply a blood donation event, but also a vivid picture of humanity. Each drop of blood donated contains a story, a hope. This is a place to connect hearts that beat with the same love.”

Ms. Bui Thi Hoa - President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation emphasized: "The Spring Festival not only attracts tens of thousands of people to participate each year, but also demonstrates the spirit of mutual love of the Vietnamese people. In the cold weather of early spring, the act of donating blood to save lives becomes even more meaningful, spreading warm human affection."
In addition to blood donation activities, the 2025 Spring Festival also has many interesting programs such as double blood donation, blood donor pairing, meeting the families of typical blood donation leaders... Blood donors will also receive gifts from sponsors.
Previously, during the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday (January 25 - February 2), the blood donation point at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion remained open, receiving 2,019 blood and platelet donations, including 1,390 blood donors and 629 platelet donors. Notably, hundreds of medical staff at the Institute proactively donated blood during their shifts to ensure blood supply for emergency and treatment.
Along with the Spring Pink Festival, the "White Blouse - Pink Heart" festival series took place at many hospitals in February 2025 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day, contributing to meeting the blood demand for treatment after Tet.
