According to the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health, 40 public health units after the merger of Lao Cai and Yen Bai provinces include: 4 provincial-level general hospitals, 4 provincial-level specialized hospitals, 7 provincial-level centers, 8 regional general hospitals; 17 regional health centers.
The grassroots health network includes 31 regional general clinics under the management of the Department of Health, including 13 regional general clinics under the two-functional health center and operating in a single operation with the health station; 18 regional general clinics under the regional general hospital and operating independently of the health center. 319 health stations include 168 health stations under the Department of Health and 151 health stations under the management of the Commune People's Committee.

The Regional Health Center is a public service unit under the Department of Health that manages and performs the function of providing professional and technical services on preventive medicine, medical examination, treatment, rehabilitation, reproductive health, food safety, population and other medical services according to the provisions of law. The Regional Health Center under the Department of Health performs the functions and tasks according to the communes and wards when implementing local government at 2 levels.
In addition, commune, ward and town health stations under the district-level Health Center will become health stations under the management of the new commune and ward People's Committees. Each new commune will have 1 health station and the remaining health stations in the commune will become health stations.
The new Lao Cai province after merging from Yen Bai and Lao Cai has a natural area of 13,256.92 km2 (reaching 165.7% of the prescribed standard); the population is 1,656,590 people (reaching 184% of the prescribed standard).
The new Lao Cai Provincial Political - Administrative Center is located in Yen Bai City, Yen Bai Province (currently). Geographical location of Lao Cai province (new) borders Tuyen Quang province, Phu Tho province, Son La province and Lai Chau province; People's Republic of China.
