On July 26, in Thanh Hoa, Thanh Hoa Oncology Hospital coordinated with domestic and foreign scientific organizations to organize an international scientific conference with the theme " application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of health and some common diseases in Oncology".

The event was attended by many leading domestic and international scientists and medical experts such as Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Dieu - President of the Vietnam Cancer Association; Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Cam Phuong - Director of the Center for Nuclear Medicine and Oncology, Bach Mai Hospital; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Phi Le - Executive Director of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence Research, Hanoi University of Science and Technology; Dr. Lee Kim Shang - radiotherapist for head and neck cancer, Parkway Medical Group (Singapore); along with leaders and experts from many oncology hospitals nationwide.

Speaking at the workshop, MSc. Dr. Tran Van Thiet - Director of Thanh Hoa Oncology Hospital - said that in the context of strong development of science and technology, the hospital identifies the application of AI as a key orientation, contributing to improving the effectiveness of diagnosis, treatment and health management. In the immediate future, AI will be applied in imaging diagnosis, cell - disease pathology and some common cancers, then expanded to other fields.
At the workshop, scientists presented many in-depth reports, updating advances in cancer treatment and applying AI to healthcare. Notably, there are reports on early treatment of lung cancer by Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Cam Phuong; application of proton therapy for head and neck cancer by Dr. Lee Kim Shang; and research on PET photo creation from CTanner Sc using AI by Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Phi Le...

Also within the framework of the workshop, Thanh Hoa Oncology Hospital and Parkway Medical Group (Singapore) signed a memorandum of understanding on international cooperation. The cooperation focuses on human resource training, in-depth technical transfer, remote consultation and support for treatment referral in cases beyond current professional capacity.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Dieu - Chairman of the Vietnam Cancer Association, a provincial hospital like Thanh Hoa organizing an in-depth international conference on AI in health is a positive signal, demonstrating the mindset and determination to innovate, closely following the development trend of modern medicine with the spirit of openness and high learning. He also acknowledged the professional advances of Thanh Hoa Oncology Hospital in recent times, especially in the implementation of high techniques such as SPECT/CT, mobile biology, targeted treatment and less invasive surgery.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Van Thi - Permanent Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee warmly welcomed domestic and international scientists who came to Thanh Hoa to attend the workshop. He highly appreciated the hospital's efforts to organize the workshop and affirmed that the province will create favorable conditions for mechanisms and policies for the development of the local health sector.
The Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee assigned the Provincial Department of Health to closely coordinate with relevant units to effectively support the implementation of the contents of the signed memorandum of understanding.
On the side of Parkway Singapore Group, the representative of the unit expressed his commitment to accompany in training human resources, providing professional support and transferring technology in accordance with the conditions of the provincial hospital.

This workshop is a specific step in the roadmap to bring artificial intelligence into the practice of cancer treatment in Vietnam. With the participation of leading experts and commitments to international cooperation, the event not only helps update professional knowledge, but also opens up new opportunities in technology transfer and capacity building of the local health system.
