On January 4, the Cuban government said that 32 Cubans were killed in the US campaign to arrest Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
According to the Cuban Government, due to the US attack on Venezuela on January 3, "32 Cubans were killed in combat operations, while on duty on behalf of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of Interior, at the request of the partner agencies of this South American nation".
Our compatriots have fulfilled their missions heroically and dignifiedly, fallen after fierce resistance, in direct battles with attackers or as a result of bombing facilities," the Cuban government statement stated.
US President Donald Trump admitted in a statement to the press on the evening of January 4 on Air Force One: "Many Cubans died yesterday.
Officials of President Donald Trump's administration will attend a closed-door meeting with some members of the US Congress on Venezuela at 5:30 pm on January 5.
Members of parliament participating include chairmen and senior members of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, the Senate Military Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Military Committee, as well as a Group of 8 including chairmen and senior members of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees and 4 leaders of the House and Senate.
The meeting is expected to have the participation of Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, War Minister Pete Hegseth, Minister of Justice Pam Bondi, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine.
In another development, a spokesman for the US Federal District Court in the southern district of New York said that Mr. Maduro and his wife will appear in federal court at noon on January 5, local time.
Mr. Maduro and his wife were transferred to New York on the evening of January 3rd and are being detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. Mr. Maduro and his wife face charges related to drug trafficking and working with gangs considered terrorist organizations.
