The latest storm and low pressure information from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that low pressure near the East Sea LPA 04a formed last weekend is expected to bring rain to Mindanao and the Visayas island group until this weekend.
On the morning of April 30, the low pressure near the East Sea, 805 km east of South Mindanao, Philippines, was still located along the tropical convergence zone - where the winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converged.
PAGASA weather expert Rhea Torres said that low pressure LPA 04a is affecting Palawan in Luzon. It is forecasted that on April 30, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms in this area.
In the coming days, the low pressure will approach the mainland, then cause rain in some areas of Mindanao and Visayas, Torres said in a weather bulletin at 5am on April 30.
Meanwhile, some areas in the Philippines have not been affected by this low pressure. The weather is generally fine in Metro Manila and other places across the country thanks to the winter wind - the wind blowing through the Pacific Ocean bringing hot and humid weather.
"Higher temperatures are forecast, especially in the afternoon until early afternoon. However, scattered showers or thunderstorms may appear in the late afternoon or evening," PAGASA's weather bulletin stated.
According to Pagasa's forecast for the first half of May, it is expected that the low pressure near the East Sea is active, which is likely to become storms from average to high. During the week from April 28 to 4.5, LPA 04A low pressure operates mainly in the southeast of the Philippine forecast area (PAR). It is expected that low pressure will move to the east of Mindanao, Visayas and Nam Luzon of the Philippines.
During the week of May 5 to May 11, the low pressure near the East Sea is likely to turn northeast as it affects the east coast of Southern Luzon.
With the latest storm forecasts, LPA 04a is likely to become the first storm of the 2025 Pacific typhoon season. When active in the Philippine forecast area, this storm near the East Sea will be locally named Auring - the first name on PAGASA's list of typhoon names for the 2025 typhoon season.
Previously, Philippine weather experts had predicted that the low pressure near the East Sea LPA 04a could strengthen into a tropical storm on April 30 or May 1. The storm could pass through the central Philippines towards the South China Sea or around eastern Luzon. However, the forecast track and intensity of the potential storm remains uncertain.
