According to storm news, the latest low pressure from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), a tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), coded LPA 09g, is likely to strengthen into a tropical storm on September 24 and reach typhoon level by the weekend.
According to the bulletin at 11:00 AM on September 23rd (Philippines time), tropical depression LPA 09g is located 1,855km east-southeast of Luzon Island. The system maintains maximum wind speed of 55 km/h near the center, gusts up to 70 km/h.
The low pressure is moving northwest at a speed of 40 km/h, faster than the 25 km/h level recorded by PAGASA in the previous bulletin on the same day. The area with strong winds extends up to 200km from the center of the low pressure.
PAGASA forecasts that the system will continue to move mainly west-northwest and enter PAR on the morning of September 24. When entering this area, the tropical depression will be named Queenie locally.
The Philippine weather agency assessed that the system could strengthen into a tropical storm before entering PAR, then continue to intensify and possibly reach typhoon level by the weekend. PAGASA also warned that the system could continue to strengthen after a 5-day forecast period.
However, in the next 3 days, the low pressure area is not forecast to directly affect the weather and sea conditions in the Philippines and surrounding areas.
New developments show that the low pressure is moving faster towards the forecast area, while the possibility of strengthening is still being closely monitored by PAGASA. People need to continue to update new weather forecasts about the direction and intensity of the system in the coming days.
